Nav Pod + Stand alone Navigation?

So I'm recently new to the NSX Prime world as I've recently picked up a 2002 NSX.

One thing that I'm definitely missing in the NSX is the Navigation. I'm really not too interesting in going the route of putting in a double-DIN radio as I would like to keep the factory look as much as possible.

I've looked at the Honda Display Pod (http://www.scienceofspeed.com/products/interior_performance_products/NSX/Honda/display_pod) and LCD screen (http://www.scienceofspeed.com/products/interior_performance_products/NSX/ScienceofSpeed/LCD_display/) that the Science of Speed site has.

However, I'm having some difficulties finding a standalone Navigation unit to work with this Pod and LCD screen. I did find a product through NavTV.com that looks promising. Has anyone had any experience with this Garmin NTX54 Stand Alone Navigation system?? http://www.navtv.com/product/221/garmin-ntx54-stand-alone-navigation.html

Or would something as simple as using the Garmin Nuvi 2798LMT work just fine in the Nav Pod? https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-...vi-2798lmt-with-backup-camera/prod150565.html

I'm hoping you all can help point me in the best direction.

Thanks!

When I bought my 03 LBBP NSX, it came with the Nav Pod. It houses the Pioneer W6210 Nav Screen and a rear trunk mount standalone unit AVIC-88DVD. Although it's setup nice, I find it very slow and just not up to today's par. This unit was probably high tech back in 2003.

I check out the NAV-TV one, it just uses Garmin but transfer the image over to a separate LCD. It does look pretty simple to setup if you can get the wires from the trunk to the front. It's quite pricey, at $799 and that's before a 6" to 7" touch screen LCD.

I was thinking about doing a DIY on mounting the Garmin Nuvi 2798LMT inside the Nav Pod but my worry is that everytime I need to fix or update the map, I'll need to disasseble to get the unit out. Also, need to setup a cig adpater to connect to power and traffice signal. I've also heard that setting the unit inside the pod might distort the reception signal since that build-in to the unit.

I don't use the GPS often but everytime I do, it doesn't work well. The map are so outdated that it can't find places I need to go. Bummer!

Good luck, let me know how it goes which ever route you take.

If you can find a standalone monitor that can accept hdmi input, you can mirror your smartphone on to that and use your phone's google map. Which is the most up-to-date map. Im currently working on the same concept, except my alpine tme m740bt roesnt have hdmi input, only rca. Which can still work but quality is only of 480I resolution. Not bad but not good for today's standards. Im using samsung g3 phone with, samsung mhl 2.0 adapter, hdmi cable, mini hdmi to av converter box, rca cable to rca on alpine monitor. Mhl adapter and mino converter box both need to be power to work. So, mini usb cig adapter with 5v/3amp output is needed. Currently waiting on that to ship. Testing this setup with my vizio tv, does work. Resolution is only 480i. If it was 480p, it would be a little better.
