Need help with rear pads

I've changed 3 of the 4 brake pads on my car and am having some trouble with the right rear. When I try to screw the piston (clockwise) into the caliper so I have clearance for the brake pads, it seems to come out? When I try turning the piston to the left, it also comes out?

Any ideas what is going on? The piston is very far out of the caliper right now and it doesn't seem to retract into the caliper regardless of what direction I turn it. Help!

When I changed the left rear, I had no problem getting the piston to go back into the caliper.

Nevermind. Got it!

I needed to take the caliper off and apply some downward pressure on the piston to get it to screw in.
