Anyone consider buying a Meserati instead of ferrari or nsx? I saw one the other day sounds fantastic and ferrari burrowed the motor and dropped it in the F430 and is beautiful inside, only thing is engine is up front. an 04-05 sells for $40k seems reasonable for a 180mph car and 400hp ferrari engine, navi beautiful interior. The new replacement model granturismo is gorgous but over 100k.

Maserati Schumacher test driving stats it shifts better than the ferrari.

i wouldn't buy it instead of an nsx or ferrari..... but it's a nice car.
also, i would never buy one new, unless you're into losing 50g's fast

Yeah, buying a new Maserati would be about as smart as sending all your money to Nigeria. On the other hand, owning a used one by next year is looking more and more like a possibility for me. You can get 02 models under 40 pretty consistently. My personal goal is to own an exotic by 30, if I can beat that by 7 years I'll be happy as hell.

So what if it's an overgrown miata, it's sexy as hell.

lame excuse for a high-end GT...

Maserati Coupe-Spyder/GranSport...

- sub-par reliability & serious quality issues (an understatement, actually)

- residual values worse than Jaguar & Land Rover, which sez' A LOT (!)

- amongst the most unreliable and poorly built transmissions of modern-day sports-cars (both the GT/Cambiocorsa); I've seen 3 gearboxes turn to mush right before my eyes

- 3rd gen' Mercury Capri inspired styling ( :vomit: )

- remove the Maserati trade-mark 'Trident' and this car would be universally lampooned into dark coffers of obsolescence

IMHO, an absolute P.O.S. to own @ any price-point; trust me on this... the ultimate poseur-mobile.

At least wait/save'up for a Gran Turismo, in which some issues have been resolved and the styling is much more befitting a luxo' performance GT of stature.

The one that caught my eye wasn't actually the cambio, it was an 02 GT coupe for something like a grand more than the cambio.

I like boxsters, and they are 'fairly' reliable, but they are EVERYWHERE here. There are more boxsters than civics and accords on the road here. That said, my aim (regardless of whether it is a technically superior car or not) is something a little more unique. An NSX is still in the running, I just have a thing for Italian.

Looks like coupe 02 shares the engine and GranSport 05 shares engine and Skyhook suspension with 430. According to fchatters its more reliable than 360. Here are some cost figures.

7K service $500 and the 18K service $1400, upgraded the clutch, actuator, and software for late 2003 models $3800. Seems that the f1 goes through clutch faster than manual.

Performance wise 0-60 4.9 quarter mile 12.8-9 top speed 180mph, 3700lbs near 400hp, 13-15mph.

Wow, that's some sweetness. For $32K you can get a car that will be absolutely unique in your neighborhood. Much better than the dime-a-dozen Miatas and Boxsters we got around here.

Its very tempting isn't it, its depreciated 65%? For 30-60K you are essentially driving an F430 less body and 20mph less on the top speed. Fchatters are starting starting to buy them alot of bang for the buck the one I saw was black Gransport so it had the bigger wheels, body kit sounded very Ferrari like very impressive.

Here is a gransport $53k.

I just noticed an '03 Coupe nearby selling for ~30k. I had no idea the prices on these cars had dropped so low. Maybe I should I get rid of the E55 and pick one up?

These cars can have some serious reliability issues. Make sure you do your homework. I'm not familiar with the quality of the "brand" brand new ones, but the ones selling in the 30's and 40's are there for a reason.
