Anyone know of a quality outdoor subwoofer that's not a fake rock/tree stump, not Bose, and is self-powered? Preferably, something that goes down to 40Hz or lower.

self powered means it would need AC. You aren't going to find that. It needs to be a good passive unit. One of the best I have heard is this one:

Works great. Klipsch is great for outdoor speakers. There are also some "rock" subs by other companies if that better fits your needs. Good Luck
