Hello all!

I received my Science of Speed HID kit a couple of days ago.
Here are my observations of the kit.

It came well packaged and in a timely manner.
The kit is the McCulloch one for the Acura NSX. Science of Speed included two end caps that are pre-drilled to fit your NSX. The kit also includes all the hardware for plug and play.

The instructions are clear but still need some fine tuning. My 2000 NSX has slightly different wiring than the 1993 that the directions were designed after. with a little fiddling, I managed to find the right connections.
I informed Chris, so the next installment of the directions should be all set with the correct wiring for later production NSX's.

It definitely took me more than an hour to install the lights. I am a meticulous person. If you take your time and read the directions thoroughly it will take you about three hours to install both lights.

Now that I know what I am doing, it would only take me about an hour to do the install. For the first timer I would definitely allow at least three hours.

Make sure you place the ballast at a 90 degree angle when you place it in the front part of the bumper. The plastic headlight cover can pinch the two wires coming out of it if you don't.

Originally there is a plastic cap with an o ring seal on each low beam light. This lets you gain access to the light bulb and then seal it tight from the elements. With the SOS kit there must be a small hole drilled in the cap to allow two wires to protrude from the cap. SOS provides the cap and pre-drills the holes for you.

You will then stick the two wires through a rubber grommet that fills the holes. The grommet is there to keep dust and moisture from entering the inside of the light.
After careful inspection of my light, I decided to use some silicone II on the grommet once in place to ensure that nothing gets into the light housing.
The grommet could come loose and let dust and moisture into the light housing (not good).

When all was said and done, the lights look wonderful! Very bright with a great white look! They are "more blue" than my Mercedes and most definitely make the car look classy. I can see better at night.

I would buy this kit again hands down!

James,
Thanks for taking the time to share your install experience with us. I'd be very interested in seeing some close up pictures of the install, hood closed and hood open to get a good look at it. Well done!

Hi,
I've installed the sos hid kit on my car too. Kool looking lights. I'm in the Boston area. If any nsxers want to check it out in person? Drop me a mail. I also have the jgtc parallel exhaust with the dual canister. It now sounds like the car has 500hp

Are they bright enough to drive with when first turned on, or is there a significant warm-up time?

HID lights generally start with a flash and then take about two seconds to reach full brightness. I'm sure Chris's are no exception.

i did my HID conversion a few years ago and finished the look by changing out the parking lites to hyper whites to match the hid color lamps

I had PIAA bulbs before and recently install the Science of Speed HID System. it goes in really easily, even for a non-mechanic (but some technical experience) like me. the lights are very similar in color to my BMW. the main advantage is not only the looks, but the way they light up the road!!! signs especially almost look like they are backlit at night they are so bright.

To answer your question, the warm up time is only like 30 seconds, then it comes to full brightness. i'll try to take a few photos of it on my car. i took some at night, but they did not come out. maybe I'll try like Robert and do it during the day. his picture doesn't show how they have that HID bluish color though, the color changes like with HID, the more you move around the car, the bluer it gets. the only thing I've request to SoS is that they include more long black tie straps. although, they even include gloves with the package to handle the HID bulbs, talk about goin the extra step!

Glad to hear that you are happy with the kit! In terms of the increase in brightness, how much brighter would you say the HID kit is when compared to the OEM (non-HID) lights?

The lights are quite a bit brighter and give you much better visualization of the sides of the road, better to see small animals and deer. The only down side is that when you turn on the high beams, the high beams look yellow. Will probably have to buy the PIAA superwhite. Another option would be to add HID driving lights. The SOS kit was definitely worth the investment.

Is there any way to change the little lights (sort of yellow now) to a more white colour, so the difference ain't that big?

Any aftermarket bulbs?

Hi,

I have just installed my SOS HID kit a few weeks ago and followed the instructions step by step. After the install part of the ballast (a small corner) is showing from the headlight cover. I drilled a hole on the headlight frame as per the instructions given by SOS. Were any of you who has the SOS Hid kit installed able to have the entire Ballast and ignitor hidden completely under the headlight cover? Any tips as to how if at all possible to hide the entire ballast is greatly appreciated.

I covered it with a piece of black electrical tape. If I get around to itI may paint it or cover it with a piece of thin black plastic.

I have the autolamps HID kit and just went through a pennsylvania state inspection by the local acura dealer. No problem..nothing mentioned. I don't think they see many NSX's and would think its stock. I don't think you'd have a problem
