Shift knobs

Anyone know if the 'other' SoS NSX-R type knob (the non titanium one) has the 6-speed pattern on it? It doesn't say so, but ya never know.

I just Received my SOS NSX-R type knob Today it dose not have any shifting pattern in it .

Thanks show1nsx, that confirms the email I just got from Chris at SoS.

guys....
i just realized something thanks to this thread.
the panel on my center console that goes from below the vents to the armrest has been painted flat black... including the ashtray cover.
damn!!
sometimes i wish i didn't care about my car so much.
the dealer quoted me 700 bucks... with my lil discount.
well... off to the "parts wanted" forum i go.

For what it's worth Rick's sells a darn good Voodoo shift knob for the S2000. They are available in AL or Ti in two sizes and a few different finishes, with or without the shift pattern (6sp only). They're countersunk so the shift throw is reduced a good bit (probably more on an NSX).
They're made to order so they take a minute to get to you but most of the S2k guys swear by Rick's customer service and quality. I don't see why the Voodoo wouldn't work on the NSX. When I trade in my S2k for an NSX, I'll be keeping my Voodoo knob :)
He also sells "socks" to keep the knob out of the heat.

If the panel is not damaged, you can just have it repainted to match the rest of the trim. A lot cheaper than buying a new one, and the labor to remove/install is the same either way!

can you recommend a paint that matches the rest of the panels?
should i take it to a "specialist?"

Super,

Just out of curiosity, are you changing the color back to stock because you don't like the black finish? Or...is this because you want to go back to the stock appearcance?

Perhaps you could throw up a picture for us before you go back to the stock look?

Thanks.

i like the momo 'king' knob, satin finish nice size and matches the momo 'race' steering wheel ;)

If you get a custom boot made, have the boot made a little longer. The boot folds back on itself slightly, (which i like) and forces the boot sit up against the knob.

As for heat issues, do what i do..... driving gloves...........

My car had the SOS "quick shift" knob on it when I got the car, but I switched to the Type-R copy and boot. I LOVE this knob much better. It sits a lot lower, and has a better feel IMO. I usually like putting a low ball style knob on all my manual tranny cars.

there are a couple spots where the black paint is starting to flake off. the black doesn't look bad, but when i started thinking about repainting it i noticed that all the other cars matched with the rest of the trim panels. i'm really picky about my car so i want to bring it back to the oem color.
i work for a company that does plastic prototype models, so i'm most likely going to run it thru the shop to see what they can do with it. we have a computerized color matching system that should be able to match it pretty damn good.
i'll take a pic before i pull it out.

Hrant - how about coming up with some leather socks for the various aluminum knobs out there? Maybe even a couple - a red one & a black one for how my mood takes me!
I'd like one for this SOS model (same as Anytime's) ......

D'Ecosse, when was the last time you visited your grandma or great aunt ...... it does wonders to drop in with a nice pie ........., heck if you are nice to your SO/spouse you might get one with "special" menaing ........... LOL!

Veleno, I will post something soon .... I'm learning how to operate my new digital camera.

here are the pics of my center console with the flat black paint.
it's kind of hard to see the contrast in these pics, but in person it's bad enough that i'm going to do something about it.
oh... and there's my sos rapid shift knob. i'm about to pull it out and have it anodized. it doesn't match anything else in the car.
i know i know... i'm really anal about that stuff.

I painted mine with "dashboard grain" paint. $3.99 at Wal-Mart. I have the SoS Type-R copy and shift boot. I was going to paint the shifter post black (not the knob), but I'm going to have Dali do the short shift conversion, so then the boot will sit flush with the knob.

edit: and I left space below the radio for the turbo timer and a couple switches for various things. :D

_____________

I am doing some investigative (aka R&D) work on this; I am thinking of two lengths, one to cover the shorter shift knobs (about 3") and one for longer ones using the oem as the template length, with black or red thread stitching, and perhaps a pull strap on the bottom.

What would be a reasonable fair market value price for such a shift knob sock .......? I ask this to give me a negotiating reference going in with a dozen or so order .......

I've received my SoS Polished Rapid Shift Knob

I've received my SoS Polished Rapid Shift Knob. WOW! What a difference it makes! The shifts are shorter, it feels nice and crisp when you put it in gear, and it is at the perfect height! Plus it looks so damn cool!

Here are some comparison pictures on how much lower it sits. Please excuse my dirty interior.

The OEM Shift Knob

The OEM Shift Knob

(both pics taken right after one another). The car is in reverse so don't think something is weird by the way the shifter is leaning...

As point of reference Rick's are $19 on his site - I'd probably even go $30 for something nice. The one for the SOS knob in my pics will be bigger than the ones on Rick's site no doubt.
I think you will be fair when setting a price that is reasonable to cover your cost plus a worthwhile profit.

CmputerWiz

I was going to get the exact combo as you but am now having second thoughts. I have my V1 display in the ashtray and cannot see it with my current Dali setup.

Here are my issues, but I am in no way criticising what you have.

How does the type r shift boot stay up?
Does the shifter post always show?
In the pictires on SOS, the round knob looks titanium color, but in yours it looks polished. I have the black annozied Dali shifter an like that allot, but I am not a fan of polished. Can you elaborate on how the knob looks?
Last Q- how far does the threads go into the knob?

TIA

Jeff

My V1 I have on the left of my dash. I used the remote display for a bit, but didn't like having to look down to see what's going on, so now I have hard-wired the V1 itself on that side of the dash...so that wasn't an issue for me.

The shift boot doesn't really stau up from what I've seen, although I haven't attempted to hook it up or make it stay. I'm getting the short shift conversion done, so I wasn't too worried. If you wanted it to stay up, I'm sure you could tighten the plastic ziptie thats inside the boot. So on mine, yes, the post always shows. For now. :D

Hmm, the shifter really looks polished to me. I'll try to get a better pic of it tonight, I'll take it inside and turn the flash off. It doesn't look titanium in my eyes... And I'll get a pic of the threads.

Thanks CmputerWiz, I look forward to seeing it.

I did not realize that there was a zip tie in the boot. That would make me feel a little better.

I wonder if there is a place to get it annodized titanium to better match the center console???

At any rate, thanks again!

I just got around to posting mine, and looked here....and thought I already posted it! Mine looks *EXACTLY* like that.

Been using the SOS knob...I thinks its great! Shortens the throw, easy to instal (I put mine on with my bare hands in a Safeway parking lot in 2 minutes). The size took a couple of days to get used to after the melon of a shift knob the stock one is. And finally, I think it looks really good. I got the satin finish and if you didn't know it was after market, you'd think it was stock by the way is goes with the rest of the interior. Get this one :)
