The day I read the 'Thumbs-Down' thread, I parked at the beach right at the boardwalk. 4 teens walked by, I was out of the car and it was not obvious I was the owner. One girl says "Ooooo . . what kind of car is that"? A teen boy replies "Its the new Acura, its like a wanna-be Corvette". Then the other says "Lets see how fast it goes" and leans in to read the speedo . . ."180" and they walk off! Pretty funny. I held back from saying anything but in my head I was thinkin . . "Yeah, the wanna be corvette that only costs half as much as 4 corvettes. It's made by hand out of crappy aluminum just like a coke can instead of hi-tech space-age injection molded plastic"

hehe....Ilove it.....

Wannabe Corvette?!

That is too funny...

Further proof that "teenage wisdom" is an oxymoron

There are plenty of older gents who are just as ignorant. Conversely, there are plenty youngens that know quite a bit about motorsports. I think the general population, on average, is pretty ignorant regarding cars in general.

i have found out that most people are pretty ignorant when it comes to the acura, especially when it comes to its cost. they seem to believe that since its an acura its like a 10,000 car or something. now the lambo is something in its own. most people know exactly what it is, but figure the price to be 500,000 to 1,000,000. hell, who am i to tell them otherwise!

I was at my local coffee shop, drinking a mocha and my car parked in a location that was very visible to where I was sitting. This was in a plaza by a mall and security guards in golf carts normally patrol the area. So I was drinking my mocha when a guard patrols the lot. He goes back and forth and stops right next to my car and stares for a few minutes. I was scared that I parked in a handicap or something. Then he leaves. Comes back in 20 minutes with a camera and takes snap shots of my!!!! I bet he wants to make a poster out of them and hang it on his wall hehe.

Allan, I totally know what you're saying. Well, semi-sort of, cuz, I don't own a Lambo. I overheard some kids two weeks ago say to each other that the NSX was just an Acura and that "anyone could get one for $10-15 thousand. It's not like a $500,000 Lamborghini or Ferrari. See, the engine is really small," as the older teenager points to the front of my NSX.

I wasn't offended at all. Just thought it was funny. Hey, at least they knew it wasn't a Nissan. The announcer at the local road course (Hallett) always says the NSX is a Nissan.

I have alot of good comments about my car, even one couple took afew pictures of it when we had stop along Hwy 1 to enjoy the view.Once I had heard this one guy tell his wife that " now there is a nice car...thats a Lotus" I didn't have the heart to tell him the truth. But mostly most people know what car it is and give the thumbs up, unlike some of us.
And if I have the time I ask if they want to sit in my car and check it out.
Just last weekend I had 3 different people at 3 different locations come up and want to see my car. Its kinda fun to talk to them about my car.

I have completely the opposite experience in terms of the cost of the car (which is odd since I am in jaded old NYC).

Most people I run across think the car is a lot *more* expensive than it really is. They'll say "oh man, those are really expensive eh?". And I'll reply "well, about $90k new". The answer I have gotten nearly without fail is "oh! I thought it was over a hundred grand! $90k isn't too bad... It looks more expensive than that!"

I have also had a 100% response rate of "good move!" when I've told people that I sold my Corvette to get the NSX. I'm talking diehard Brooklyn guys like myself here too. Without fail I've heard "the Vette is cool, but that thing is... fuggedaboutit!"

Hmmm... Maybe NYC isn't so bad...

Today I was at a fish store and I see this beater car come into the lot and look for a space. Of course, he parks it right next to mine. I immediately thought of the parking threads on here and snapped a pic.

Wow, look at all the other spaces available!

Wow, look at all the ugly cars in that parking lot! The NSX hardly stands out at all.

No wonder we all love our NSXs so much.

At least those kids acknowledged that your NSX is NOT a Corvette...my NSX gets mistaken for a 'vette far too often.

And that reminds me, last Sunday I was checking the air in my NSX's tires when some guy comes up asking me about my car. When I told him how fast it goes, he said something like "Woah, I thought these cars were nothing more than fake Ferraris...didn't realize they're THAT fast."

Ignorance sucks if you ask me.
