Transmission installation + some pics

So I decided to replace my transmission with a short gear version with a 4.23 R&P.

The disassembly went well until we got a look at the old clutch. Apparently two of the bolts for the pressure plate were loose and one of them backed out almost all the way!!! Unfortunately that one is now bent and without a new bolt, the project had to stop. I can't imagine what might have happened if the pressure plate came off under hard acceleration! I guess getting the transmission was a real good idea after all!!

I posted some pics of the removal (i don't have any of the bad bolt).

Sounds like someone didn't torque down the bolts correctly last time. The procedure is important. Torque down to 16 lbs/ft in a star pattern gradually in 2-4 lbs/ft steps. This prevents the spring from bending.

Cheers,

Chris,

That seems to be the consensus on out end too.

The strange thing is that the ran fine, no oddball sounds and the clutch felt great.

It wouldn't for much longer, however!
