i have been thinking seriously about the volks, which i think are beautiful, for some time.a chance has come up to get some oem 02-05 wheels, and now i am torn,so just thought i'd get some opinions.looking to save some unsprung weight and get a handling and appearance upgrade, also to get past the scarcity of 16" tires for the front.

i love how the volks look, would get bronze to go with my green car, the oem's might be the more practical choice. as for weight, the wiki says these oem's are 17 f, 20 r, the volks are about 15 and 18 or less. thanks for any and all opinions.

Can't go wrong with oem. I had the same problem choosing between oem and Work Meister wheels. Picked oem and haven't looked back

It really comes down to aesthetics and sizing. Some want to run 17/18 for looks as well as to put more rubber. I like stock 02 wheels but CE28n is my next choice. In silver or bronze on bb.
Weight wise I think it will either balance out or be very close 17/17 OEM with 215/255 vs 17/18 Ce28 215/265+

Other thing to consider - OEM 02+ are hard to find. And when you find them people want crazy $ for it.

FYI:

Front:

Volk CE28: 17x8 = 15lbs
Stock: 16x7 = 16.75lbs

Rear:

Volk CE28: 18x9.5 = 17lbs
Volk TE37: 18x9.5 = 18.3lbs
Stock: 17x8.5 = 20.85lbs
5Zigen ProRacer GN+: 18x9.5 = 22.5lbs

Volk TE37: 19x9.5 = 20.9lbs
Advan RS: 19x10 = 20.3-21.4-22.7lbs
Advan RGII: 19x10 = 19.95lbs

Sure. I think I should have been more specific. By very close I really mean comparable weight. We're not talking BBS LM weight vs CE28N. But sure CE28 is very light no question. It looks very good too.
It's great way to go 17/18 while saving weight. Also rear tire weight difference is less than 1lb for AD08R: 255/40R17 94W: 26.4 lb vs 265/35R18 93W: 27.2 lb; fronts while in the same stock size would be significantly lighter. Which is a good thing. I would be curious to swap my 02+ with ad08 in 215/255 with ce28 17/18 215/265 and see how more lively front suspension feels.

I had the same problem when I picked up my nsx. I ended up choosing the ce28 because I wanted an aftermarket look. Later down the road, I regret not getting the 02+ because of the rarity.

I didn't realize the TE37 was that much heavier than the CE28 what about the Super Lap version of the TE is that closer to the CE?

I had both, the CE28Ns were lighter but the difference was so small that I couldn't feel it. I did notice a huge difference when I switched from18/19 Rojas to those 17/18 Volks. I stayed with the OEM because while the aftermarket wheels looked very good from some angles the OEMs looked good from all angles but that's just my opinion - at the end you can't go wrong with either choice.

02+ are about 2 kg heavier in the rear than CE28N with the same size 255 and tire model. The 02+ front ones are limited to 215/40/17. You can't put a 225/35/17 on it as it's only 7'' wide.

what offsets do you guys recommend for 17x8 and 18x9.5 ce-28n's?i'd probably go +40 rear, not sure about front.i think the front choices are 33,38, and 44.

Depends.

17x8 +38 front and 18x9.5 +30 rear is FLUSH

+44 front and +40 rear gives you 8-10mm of added cushion and clearance.

I have both. Love them both. Cannot choose. You decide.
