Why I live in S. California

I found one in Canada...

Well where the devil is MINE?!?!
Maybe she is waiting for me in Cali riiiiiiight now.....hmm

I too wanted/want very much to move to Cali. It seems to me to be an area just suited to me. Not too cold, a great mix of people and cultures (an even mix mind you, not like Miami which has become 78% Latin, leaving this crazy Jamaican a bit lost in the mix). I've talked to NUMEROUS friends who LOVE Cali (or particular areas therein) because of the people, the women, the weather, the import car enthusiasts that seem to thrive there (as well as many of the companies), the list goes on.

Yes, the negatives mentioned however, always include the insane costs of living, taxes, and everything else. Still, If I came across a substantial amound of money, I would be packing for Cali right now.

Im going back to Cali.....Cali..........Cali.......Im going back to Cali............

Born and raised in Washington/Oregon, I migrated south til I found myself in a desert community east of Los Angeles (about 15 years ago). Regardless of the negatives, you've got to love the winters here. Although its raining today (intended to post photo this weekend, but Prime was down), this weekend was beautiful.

The following picture was taken this last Saturday, February 28, 2004. The temperature was in the low to mid-60's. I got sunburned (I burn easily).

Skiing/Snowboarding is about 40 minutes away. (Note snow in mountains)

Wish you were here.

I worked and lived in Bellevue and dated a girl there last few years, I can tell you WA is not that great of a place to live when I compare it to Ca. It has given me new inspiration for my home state. WA is beautiful and I love the green trees and all, but after 3-4 months of rain all the time, I found myself dreary and depressed.

BTW very nice pic. Would you able to give a detailed description how to get to that place from the greater LA basin? (though I am in ventura county on the 118freeway)

March 7, 2004

Today was hotter than a couple weeks ago, 83 degrees. Got burned even with sunscreen. Drove through the mountains.

Another day in paradise.

Wow. Beautiful weather today. But HOTT! Umm, why didn't I call in sick?!

The snow up in the mountains from the first pic isn't going to stay very long. It's melting already.

Highs today in upper 80's. Too warm for my taste. Time to break out the AC.

Throw in a little bit of rain and watch things quickly go from bad to worse.

And throw in your frequent idiots who have the audacity to steal a car and try to outrun police in front of a live news broadcast and watch things go from worse to worst.

Albeit, entertaining though. I've always wanted to see an NSX try to outrun the boys in blue. But alas, it's always a four door or a truck. :(

Yesterday morning, I drove my topless NSX-T from Agoura Hills through the canyons and down the coast from Malibu...before heading into work. I was REALLY enjoying the weather until I discovered our office's AC unit was not working. Must have gotten into the 90's inside. DAMN hot.

Today it's going to be 90's outside. Right now our office AC is working...I'm crossing my fingers that it continues to do so.

And to think I'm going snowboarding this weekend up at Mammoth...gotta love SoCal!

Now don't get me wrong, California is one of my favourite states to visit but I just have to tell you about beautiful British Columbia.

We have an event in BC called the Vancouver Triathalon. It involves skiing at one of the four local mountains (or if you want to drive an hour, Whistler/Blackcomb) in the morning, sailing in English Harbour for lunch and golfing in the afternoon.

And our women? Let me put it this way. When Hugh Hefner decided to finally get married, he married a girl from West Vancouver!

Finally we pay for all of this with a dollar that only costs US $0.75.

Now is this paradise or what? :D

In Europe we have an event called "The Dutch Triathlon". Hundreds of thousands participants per winter.
1. Drive by car from The Netherlands to Austria (about 700 miles) for skiing
2. Ski one or more days (for some, one or two hours) and break your leg or worse
3. Fly back by special plane while leaving your family in Austria

earth shaking

California is great except when the ground shakes - something that I have a slight problem adjusting to. I will take NY winters over California's earthquekes anytime. Add to that NY women and the picture is complete.

In California, they have something called the California Triathlon:

- Loma Prieta Earthquake (1989)
- Northridge Earthquake (1994)
- Cambria Earthquake (2003)

I live in WA state and I have to agree with what another poster said about the all the rain being depressing during the winter months-- at times its enough to make me want to move to CA too. That however is the the only major thing I don't like about WA. Some of the positives:

- Moderate climate (rarely too hot or cold)
- Summers are often near perfect (70 degrees and sunny mostly)
- More beautiful than most states
- The ocean is nearby (not land-locked)
- Fairly liberal, open-minded residents
- Lots of great twisty driving roads
- NO STATE INCOME TAX !!!

Property values here are quite a bit higher than the national average, however a really nice piece of property on the water here is actually somewhat attainable for someone with a decent job that saves their money. In CA, that same person would be lucky to be stuck in a stupid sub-division "planned development" with houses crammed in next to each other. That's not for me, so I guess I'll put up with the rain. Either way, it's a bit of a compromise.

Although it rain a little today, but I still got to play 18 holes of Golf in the afternoon. I have 2 major addictions besides women. Motorcycling and Golf, neither likes to get wet.

No place else but So. Cal you can get year round (dry) golf and motorcycling.

don't forget about those beautiful sunsets....

Not only is that not true, but it's a great example of the arrogance and provincialism typical of many Californians...

Ummm, I live in Texas, and I can golf year round (granted, it gets a little hot in the summer, but you get used to it).
I bet you can say the same about states like Arizona.

Not only I agree, but I would also add that it seems to me at least, that they are the only ones who keep trying to convince themselves by repeating over and over again how great SoCal is... I personally do not have any opinion (yet) but my wife who has spent most of her life there considers a potential relocation to SoCal as grounds for divorce !
