This is not uncommon for BMW dealerships to try to F*** you on restting their various BS sensors. I had a similar experience with the DSC sensor on my Z3, which likes to come on a lot. Next time save yourself the $ and hassle and unplug the battery for 30 minutes. Resets the sensor for free.
