Second, monitor the wear on your rear tires next time and after say 2500 miles swap the left and right rear tires to even out the wear. Then continue to monitor them. I was told by a tire installer that doing this could cause the tires to go bad. Is this true?

I don't see why you would have a problem. My friend here in Miami has a 93 with 18x7.5 and 20x9.5 an he doesnt rub at all. All yu need to worry about is the rapid inner wear of the tires.

The possibility of it being loose or dirty sounds about right because I just drove the car and it is not happening now. As to the engine being cold, I had been driving for about 20 minutes so I doubt it was that, but it hasnt happend again so I guess its ok.
