haha this sounds like blasphemy but....
i wonder if you could drop in a built 4G63 into our chassis? :biggrin:
just curious because my buddies put down 400-450 awhp in those engines without too much trouble, also these are pretty cheap considering :biggrin:

The swaps into Camaros seem pretty minor, and even the 300ZX would seem a simpler task than the NSX. Not to mention, cooling requirements might be considerably more, I just do not see this happening. I am not saying it can't be done (maybe Jay Leno's guys could pull it off), but I am not holding my breath.

Everyone has missed the point here - the main reason is the cheap price of parts and availability of parts which is pretty much the same thing.

Small block Chevy's are put in 911's all the time, and there are many such conversions that race here in Houston. They use an adapter for the Porsche drivetrain. The problem is NOT with weight since the aluminum small block Chevy is the same weight as a flat six. The problem is CENTER OF GRAVITY of the 911 after the swap.:rolleyes: They just don't corner as well, and in local races that shows up quickly. 0-60 is 4.5 seconds, but cornering is another story.

They make electric water pump kits for small blocks, so the belt is eliminated.
It all fits in the 911 bay with no cutting - but you cannot have AC.:mad: That killed the deal for me, since I live in Houston.

Putting the motor in a 911 longitudinally means cutting up the firewall and body to get all the drives installed. Kit Car magazine covered this in a few articles that really had my heart pumping until I thought it all over.
You just cannot do all of this for less than the cost of a new Corvette, and which would you rather have? A chopped up NSX abortion or a new Corvette? There's a lot of sacrifice in buying the older car and a whole heap of technology in a new Vette. I don't think we have anyone here who will go down Conversion road.

Im putting a LT1 into a Porsche 928 right now. Renegade hybrids makes kits for all Porsches. Also thinking about doing a 240Z swap.
Even though it might be more HP, I wouldn't want to put one in a NSX...it'd be a nightmare getting it to fit/work...plus the NSX engine is just too good.

shudder... if you must cram a SBC into a sports car pick up an old/forgotten porsche, I didn't realize nsx's were getting to the point where people would pick them up just to frankenstein them.

I swear they are about the same size and weight and horsepower...the difference is torque.

It would look and sound better with a V12. What about one of those BMW V12 engines, they are really cheap here.

haha i think that most people do this after their 2nd or 3rd motor, my friend went through 2 motors within 6 months (stock everything still) :biggrin:

most of the people i know with RX7's usually on 2nd or 3rd motor and second set of sequential turbos =O, it seems like a better option cost wise if you are going to drive hard or want more than stock power

Well I do know someone who put a 1989 JUDD/BRABHAM 3.5L V8 F1 engine in an NSX...

Saved 100kg as well...

Also its to bad a 2jz wont fit, that would be fun. And as for whoever said the 4g63 is a retard, i just got out of dsms as i was a "dsmtuner" for 4 years and i never want to have another day of spending vacations and late nights working on those. There an absolute joke. I have better reliability with my Adelphia High speed internet. And it goes out ever other day.

I don't have any photos of the installation unfortunately. But you couldn't see much through the CF airbox encasing the 8 ITB's.

Luckily Palmer found old mate Ron Harrop tinkering in his engineering shop on his day off and, three hours later, a replacement shaft was produced. The 3.5 litre car made the top 10 in Friday practice and sounds impressive as it revs to 10,500. Palmer’s next step is to find new gear ratios to suit the engine’s high and narrow power band.

From memory, I thought that Honda built 4 complete Carbon Fibre Chassis NSX's for Le Mans...?
