Final 2 sets of choices

Ok based on some comments here on prime and further thinking I have decided to ditch the Momo Arrows in Chrome that came with the car. So what I am thinking is the "O.Z. Ultraleggera in Silver Paint".

The recommended size on tirerack is 17/8 ET48 & 18/9 ET55 price €1180 = shipping import tax etc etc . Those ones are not here in Chile but I can get the 17/7 ET 45 & 18/8 ET45 - about $1800ish.

I think I will go will the ones here...

So now tires further two options

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 Blackwall 215/40/17 & 255/35/18 - do you think the 215's could be bit big for the 7 inch width ?

or

Dunlop Direzza 205/40/17 & 255/35/18

For the front the Dunlops I think match closer to the OEM numbers but are lower performance. Which set would you choose ? I do not want the tire extending past the fender...

Cheers

I would say the offsets for both pairs are less than ideal, in my opinion (you definitely won't extend past the fender; it'll be really far inward, about 35mm from being flush with the fender). I guess the wheel placement will probably be closer to the stock 16/17 of the 1994-2001 wheels.

Also, I think a 255/35/18 tire will be a little too wide for a 18x8 wheel. I would try to see if they have other fitment options for that wheel.

Dave,

I have found that the offsets should be more in the neighborhood of 42 up front and 38 in the rear. You can verify this with the manufacturer based on the wheel's spec's, but that should give you at least a point to start from. I have a 38 offset on TSW's in the rear, and I would have probably opted for an offset that "tucked" a bit more. Good luck. HTH.

Chuck, don't forget you also need to know the wheel width that goes with those offsets. I think a lot of people overlook the fact that width and offset both play into where a wheel sits relative to the fender and inner suspension components.

I'm not sure what "tucked" means in terms of offset, but my 19x10 +35 offset is pretty flush with the fender. A 19x9 +35, however would retract into the body by some 13mm(at the same time, giving your suspension components 13mm of inner clearance).

See how offset, wheel width, and overall position are related with this calculator:

Thanks for the info so far...

This is not easy eh ! how close to the fender where the 02 stock 17/7 & 17/9 with offset 55 & 56 ? I can only go by the internet pics and spec as I don't have the wheels here so any help is really appreciated.

My only other option is to ship the wheels + tires in from the US, this will be expensive in shipping & import duty but no option. Does anyone have any good photos with these wheels on there cars ?

Comparing to OEM of 02

Gram Lights 57Optimise Finish: Light Grey Painted
17x7.5 Offset: +50mm - will extend 11mm more than OEM
how do you figure out how close to the fender it will be ?
18 /9.5 with 38 offset. - will extend 24mm more

O.Z. Ultraleggera
17/8 ET 48 will extend 20 mm more than 02 oem

18/9 ET 55 will extend only 1mm more than OEM

Further taughts ? the Gram Lights are about 300g lighter so thats one point for them !

thanks
dave

I'm really not familiar with offsets - I mean, I know what they mean and how they work, but I don't know what numbers will work. Hapa88's comments about offset and width being related are dead on. If it's any help, this website nicely shows the relationship and you may find it helpful to play with the numbers there.

17x7 in front is fine. That's the stock width on the '02-05 NSX, and it's perfect for the 215/40-17 tires the front needs. I would not go with 205/40-17 tires in front.

In the rear, 255/35-18 is fine. 265/35-18 works also. Get 18x9 wheels. 18x8 is too narrow.

The Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is a much better tire in every way than the Dunlop Direzza DZ101. The F1 GS-D3 is the top of Goodyear's line, and is even better than Dunlop's best, the SP Sport Maxx. The DZ101 is a budget performance tire for those looking for a bargain-priced performance tire.

What would I choose? The F1 GS-D3 in 215/40-17 on 17x7 (or 17x7.5) in front, in 255/35-18 (or 265/35-18) on 18x9 (or 18x9.5) in the rear.

The choice is made - wheels will be Gram Lights 57Optimise in 17/7.5 ET 50 & 18/9.5 ET38, in the light grey and the tires are the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 in 215/40-17 and 255/35-18. Good Price from Tirerack aswell. All fairly close to the 02 numbers.

Thanks to all for your help in choosing esp to Adrian and NSXTasy.

Cheers
Dave
