without knowing any specifics and assuming the early media reports usually underestimate head injuries.......it will be a long road for the former champ.I hope his helmet was secured properly and did its job.
 
According to a local, to the accident, paper: "a report filed at 7.20pm read: 'The state of health of the veteran driver has worsened and his condition is considered life-threatening, according to our information."

I'm hoping that's false but my heart is fearing the worst. :(
 
Michael was a class act when I came in contact with him at the 2002 USF1 GP at Indy. Just a few of us were standing at the fence near the press room on the 1st day of practice. As a bunch of F1 drivers walked in and walked out of the press room, we asked each driver by name for an autograph. Most of them completely ignored us, and a couple glanced over at us but just and walked off. Only Michael took the time to break away from his crew to walk over to us and sign autographs. Michael Schumacher lost control of his skis after hitting a boulder and was sent flying into three other rocks, it was claimed today.

The Formula One legend was 'catapulted' headfirst with such force that it broke his helmet in two.

In a new picture released today, bloodstains can be seen in the snow at the spot where the former F1 ace smashed his head.

It also apparently shows the rocks which the seven-time champion struck in the French resort of Meribel on Sunday, leaving him with devastating brain injuries.

According to the first ski patrol paramedic on the scene, Schumacher hit a boulder which was concealed by snow that had fallen the night before and then struck three more rocks.

The French national, who asked not to be named, said: ‘We arrived within two minutes of the accident. The man lost control after hitting a rock that was lightly covered with snow.

'He went into the air and he fell and hit three more rocks on the way down. There was a lot of blood around the last rock where he hit his head.

‘The helicopter, which was able to land within 30 metres of the accident, came within minutes.’

I have never skied meribel but I have at zermat .....and coming from lawyer laden america the thing that struck me about european skiing was how little hazard warning there is once you go off piste .Obstacles including crevasse are not marked..I was just lucky not getting stung.The reports of multiple brain lesions could be bad if just standard coupe/contracoupe bleeds ......but if his brain was rattled enough to produce DAI-diffuse axonal injury or sheer hemorrhages,then his long term outlook is worse.

I don't understand all the medical terms especially their ramifications but common sense tells me there is so much more about the brain that we don't know or know how to make it heal. I hate to see him being just alive but not able to living the life he always wanted. Sigh! Someone stole my scooter this past wkend....maybe its a good thing.
 
An article yesterday says there is some concern he may have suffered permanent and severe injury and that being in the medically induced coma for 2 weeks now is not a good sign. I shall continue to hope and pray that he will recover to some degree of capacity. I think about Gaby Giffords and am amazed at her recovery.
 
They haven't been disclosing many details about his medical condition but being in an Induced Coma this long is definetly not a good sign.
 
sadly we may never know when the induced coma ends and his own begins..:frown:
 
Winter sports have never exited me, especially as someone who has depth perception issues and poor at sports. Winter sports without a full motorcycle helmet seems more dangerous than motorcycles.. I don't get how so many people sky/board without a helmet. Was Schumaker wearing a helmet?
