We complain when we get tagged- Kimi Raikonnen was stopped in his hometown somewhere in Finlind for hauling an unsafe load. David Hobbs reported this as we were watching the F1 (Monaco) this morning. He said he wasn't sure if it was snowmobiles, or personal watercraft, but Kimi was hauling three of them, in excess of some local trailering laws.
In Finland, according to Hobbs, traffic fines are based on the offense, and on your INCOME!!

Kimis fine, 40,000.00 USD

I know it may be chump change for him, but thats not the point. Its like unusual punishment when the fine so exceeds the crime.

Hum .. never heard of basing the fine on income level ... but I must admitt I like the idea of each person getting the same hit for a fine. I assume they have something at the "other end" to keep from taking too much ... although I might start donating all my income to my childen :D

Then the unemployed can drive as fast as they want. :)

Personally, I think it is stupid to penalize people on how successful they have been. The offense is the same regardless of who does it.

If the Democrats had their way in our country we would eventually resemble another Finland or worse. With their attempt to take from those who've accumulated and redistribute to the "deadbeats", err, less fortunate, these socialists who disguise themselves as politicians are leading us into ruin and damnation.

Everything else not NSX-related! Tread lightly on religion and politics. No "for sale" ads.

Highest quality of living? Based on whose standards?

I like my standard of living and freedoms. If it is so great in Finland, then there would be more people living there.

Ahhh, Ignorance is bliss....

Ignorance is bliss...you must be talking about the guy saying Finland is a great place to live.

I will tread lightly on politics here, but, I am not interested in a socialist state and that is EXACTLY the direction the liberal left want to take this country.

Capitalism is what allowed me to have my fine automobile, not an income spreading central government.

OK, I am done. Treading lightly....

DITTO.

I believe Germany also bases fines on income.

Saw a show the other day where they were busting tailgaters and people expressing themselves via hand gestures or facial expressions.

FACIAL EXPRESSIONS can get you fined!!@!!@
