My 7th year at Thunderhill! Hope some of you will come try my event. I rarely get out to meets or anything of that nature, so I'd love to meet some of you at the track.

Location: Thunderhill Raceway Park, Willows, California
Date: Friday, February 8, 2008

Event Format:
Three rungroups, each getting one 20 minute session per hour, then a full hour session from 4-5pm.

Groups will be as follows:
Advanced GRIP
Intermediate GRIP
Beginner GRIP

In addition to the full track, there will be a mini course on the skidpad north of the paddock. Autocross it, drift it, do what you like. And there's more! We will also be setting up a skidpad east of the paddock big enough for second gear circles. Practice oversteer skid control, do donuts, transitions, figure 8's, whatever you please The mini course and east skidpad are the only places where drifting will be allowed. Drifters will be placed into their appropriate level GRIP sessions, but no drifting will be allowed on course.

See you soon,
Don

Thanks Don. I have a friend with a 350Z that has recently gotten the track bug. He would probably need an instructor for a few sessions. I'm sure you will run rain or shine, yes?

See you soon,
Don
Don,
I have been on the road course at Thunderhill but only know of drifting and autocross from reading about it on the internet. Sounds like great fun to learn.
So is there 3 things going on all at the same time, the mini drifting course, the full track road course, and the 2nd gear capable skid pad area?
TIA,
-Jim S.

Yes, the event will run rain or shine.

Yes, all three run concurrent. You will be placed into your designated rungroup, and will be limited to your scheduled time on course, but the mini course and skidpad are open to all (solo runs), all day, except during lunch.

I think this would be a great b-day present for me. I havent been on a track yet with my NSX but I am signed up for 1/19 at Laguna Seca so I may use the NSX there.

Even at $199 this is a bargain if it includes all the regular amenities, more so at $155 for members.

"I'm not making any money with these track days. I like to think of myself as a philanthropist," says Ahn, who is more than happy just to break even on track rental and lunch costs.

Sounds like it at those registration fees

20 minutes every hour is optimistic as incidents do happen on the track that cause delays - and surely the track workers are going to take a break ........ but still looks like a good deal. Curious, you allow beginners to run 1 hour at the end of the day as well if they so choose? How has this worked for you?

Since I am new to your program - and we have quite a few locals who track their cars regularly (and we used to organize track events in the past), a few questions though:

1) how many total cars are going to be allowed to register
2) how many maximum number of cars per session
3) are the organizers providing on site tow truck services if/when needed
4) are the organizers providing ambulance/EMT stand by on site
5) are the organizers providing land line
6) how many flag stations are covered
7) are the organizers providing PA system
8) who is providing the general liability insurance for the track - your own carrier or THill

TIA.

I'll just go down the list:

50, there may be a few stragglers I let in, but reg will be closed at 50.

20 Max per rungroup/session

Tow is provided
EMT is on site
Unsure about landline question
Every flag station is covered
PA system will be used
I purchase my policy directly from Thunderhill, 5mil

Please explain the landline question and I'll try to answer that better, beyond that, I believe the answers will show, I don't cut any corners.

Missed this line of questioning, here goes:

20 minutes is what is scheduled, throughout the course of the day sessions are often cut into, no denying or avoiding that, but it is what is scheduled.

Track workers actually never ask for any breaks beyond the standard 1 hour lunch, I subcontract the work to Thill, so don't think it cruel of me:redface: ....

Yes, I do allow the beginners to run at the end of the day in the mixed 1 hour session. It has worked out without any hitches. First off there's a low car count to begin with, and even fewer at the end of the day. Afternoon sessions get pretty slim, and is why I started the 1 hour mixed group. Beginners have downloads after every session, if there are any challenges in etiquette, it's addressed early on. Hope that helps,

Don

Thanks for the quick feedback. Sounds to be a great deal/value especially at $155 and if lunch is included also (per the website). I'll make the local folks know about the event.

Don,
Sounds like a great time! I'll be there.
Oh, bye the way. I tried to sign up for the Laguna Seca event on Jan 21st but being that I have a T-top they required me to install a roll bar or a roll cage. That shut it down for me.
What's happening there on the 19th?
-Jim

See ya'll there, can't wait.

Lunch for my NSX buddies is not a prob, but if thats posted on any of the websites thats a mistake, please let me know where, I scanned through and couldnt find it.

See you at the track,

Don
