I currently run the 5 speed tranny with shorties and 4.23. I've come across a smoking deal on a 6 speed tranny and if it is not bought by the intended purchaser, I am considering it for myself.
I've read the faq chart several hundred times, but I would like to hear from the conversion guys as to which they feel is better and why. My tranny is great and I love the way it excellerates, so what would I gain by swapping? TIA

It really depends on what you goals are, the type of system you have, and where you make the power. If you plan on going past the 550rwhp mark, we would advise against the 6spd. The 5 speed with shorties and 4.23 is a great combination and will hold up to a point. On our system we prefer the stock gearing and final drive due to the obscene powerband.

For your application, I would keep the 5 speed and the shorties. My complaint with the system was the lack of low end thrust, at the top, it was pretty nice. Now that my car is stock, I miss the low end but I swear that I have more low end torque. Now if you go low compression high boost, forget what I said and go the the experts like FX.

Good advice!

The "obscene powerband" of the twin turbo set-up means that your really wasting your money to change the final drive. You get to the redline sooo quick with the stock final drive as it is! You feel like you just put it in gear and then it is time to change again...!

I think it really depends on what your torque curve looks like. But if its typical of an NSX engine then you very likely have nothing to gain and possibly loose time in shifting constantly with the 6 speed. That said, you should buy the 6 speed for a song and resell it here on Prime.

I currently have the stock 5spd with stock final drive and wouldn't change it. Powerband is too big and redline comes too quick to make shorter gears worthwhile.

Ive heard for turbo cars the 6 speed combo is okay unless your making crazy power and for the s/c cars the 4.23 and shorties make for a crazy ride... ill let you all know

In our experience these are the set-ups we preffered.

NA 6spd, shorties/4.23
CTSC/GMSC shorties/4.23
BellTT 6spd, shorties/4.23
FX500/GJTC (probably the same) stock 5spd
BBSC shorties/4.23/4.55 or nitrous:)
