Never having owned a Corvette, but tempted before I bought my '03 NSX, I am curious to hear from any Forum members who have owned both types as to their comparisons and critiques. One thing I do know: I recently parked my Imola Orange car next to a Grand Sport, and the 'Vette came off as a decidedly dowdy second in styling.

This has been discussed at lengths, beaten like a dead horse, and then repeated.

The general consensus is a Corvette will have superior technology, performance, and power in most quantitative categories.

Search around.

yeah but drive the Vette off the Dealer car lot put 3 miles on it
change your mind drive back with a total of 6 miles on the car and you just lost 10K LOL

your 03 Imola could have 60K miles and still be worth more than a new vette

I'll pass on that thanks LOL

they are nice but lack any kind of style.

fast true in a straight line.

I have never owned a vette and Prob never will
inless I won it from a Frito-Lay contest even then I would have them ship it to an Acura dealership instead of my house and use it as a trade in for a new TL or RL

my 2 cents well its probably worth 1 cent but still

l

and that is different from any other new car because........

I don't understand how anyone can say that an 06' to current ZO6 doesn't look bad ass but that is just my opinion. I would love to have one in addition to my NSX cause they truly are totally different beasts and yes I have driven them.

the new vette isnt bad but its just dime a dozen, its like the new civic in houston its really bad lol:smile:

They are very badass looking and badass performance. I'd still take the NSX any day over the Vette, but that Vette is one impressive looking and performing mf.

I just picked up my first NSX in early April after owning 5 vettes covering 98 thru 02. I went for the NSX due to its styling and most importantly it's exclusivity. No comparison in raw power the vette wins hands down but you can come across 50 of them a day on your drive to and from work. I have gone years not seeing an NSX I. New jersey I must say that I am very happy with my new purchase and do smile every time a drive past a vette.

NETVIPER no offense I know you like vettes not my thing is all.

I never really thought about this before:rolleyes:..........but I can tell you that everyday some nsx owner gets asked if his car is a corvette.......but I doubt that any corvette owner has ever been asked if his car was the new nsx:wink:

glad to hear, straight from the horses mouth. i have said it all along that the Corvette is a beast, but cannot get myself to buy one due to how common they are. with daily drivers, common is fine... but when it comes to special cars, rarity comes into play. speed isn't really a major factor for me anymore, so i don't think i will be getting one any time soon. i should have gotten one back when i was, though. i still went fast, but did it the hard way... Corvette is the best bang for the buck, not just the fastest for the money, but fastest period. (Z06 w/ Z07 Package)

Keen observation!

Exclusivity of ownership = NSX. Vettes are everywhere and are largely ignored by ppl because... well, who cares if you drive one... but an NSX is/was a one-of-kind work of art.

And, yes I agree with everyone else- use the search function.

If you ask Top Gear, they'll tell they don't like either!

I've got better comparison - Christian vs. Muslim! Or how about salmon vs. hamburger?

The point is people like different things. Rational choices are set aside for personal preference, get what you like and don't ask for approval from others for it.

As for me, I'd like a ZR1 motor in an NSX, driving it to Mecca while blasting 'Jesus Loves Me' on the stereo while sucking back a salmonburger (with bacon bits!)...but I may be different.

Clarkson loves the ZR1, so you are wrong. Ironically, they hate the NSX... even the NSX-R.

Actually not true, Clarkson is a big fan of the NSX and has been a big supporter of it over the years. If he comes across someone that owns one or has owned one, he never fails to mention it. He has even written a book where he mentions the car in high praise.

Found a site with an excerpt.

As for the Vette, he loves the power, but always bashes the quality.

PS. I want a salmonburger with bacon bits. Thats sounds awesome, everything is better with bacon.

Defense!

OK, I may have stumbled upon a new taste sensation! Pam and I just bought a 3lb salmon slab at Sams...and we ALWAYS have bacon around...I'll report back.

Have you ever watched the show? Caustic is right - they are all about dissing the Vette's quality, suspension, etc. and while Clarkson raved while driving the Vette in the US, took nothing but crap from the others. Same when they reviewed the NSX-R and had very little good to say about it.

The problem for them is neither of them are Euro cars - thus they are inferior and needn't apply to the 'real' performance or supercar game.

Back to the good old US of A, I've driven a Z06 and my car back to back, same roads and my opinion is the Vette is a machete, the NSX a scalpel. Looks and coolness easily go to the NSX, power and race-proven performance go to the Vette. I have no want or need for a Vette, as I feel my car does everything I need it to do, AND just happens to be one of the finest engineered driving machines created by man.

ok well hammond seemed to hate the NSX.

I actually have both a 2009 C6 and a 1991 NSX. Personally, I wasn't super hot on the Corvettes until my boss bought a C6 and let me drive it. After that experience, I realized that GM had upped the ante for the quality was better than the prior versions, however, still is a less than that of the NSX. I also have a S2000 and I thought that GM did some of the same things Honda did with the S. They spent money where it mattered (or least where they thought it mattered) like the drivetrain, brakes and went cheap on some of the interior pieces (ie. I just hate the visors on the C6, radio on the S2000). Yes, the Corvette is inexpensive and depreciates far more than our NSX's, but that's fine with me for I nabbed a nice very low mileage used one for less than what any NA2 NSX goes for.

I use my C6 as a daily driver. It is actually quite comfortable and civil. The plastic body makes me less sensitive to morons who might give me a dingy in the parking lot. Also, parts are silly cheap compared to the NSX. The car makes remarkably good gas mileage and has power that exceeds my abilities to tap safely.

As for exclusivity, the C6 is not the same as the NSX. Heck if you want exclusivity don't bother with the C6. Personally, I'm not into that and don't care. If Honda made 100,000 copies of the NSX, I'd still own one cause they really are gorgeous and quite frankly the world would probably be a prettier place.

Regarding the styling, the NSX in my book wins hands down. The lines are just intoxicating. The C6 is certainly no dog but it doesn't have the same exotic look of the NSX. Rear mid-engined cars have a distinctly more svelte appearance that I seem to be drawn to. Though I will make one point and that is that for some reason, chicks are way more apt to talk to you when you are in a Corvette than a NSX. I don't know why, but I've had a number of chicks ask for rides in the Corvette, but none have asked for one in the NSX. Strange?

In the drivetrain category...well, the C6 is newer and just has gobs of power and torque. It seems to have power everywhere in the powerband and somehow that thrust makes you forget any of the deficiencies the car may have. Sure it doesn't rev like the NSX or feel as lively as the NSX, but when you've got the pedal down, you really have to hold on cause it will just go!!

In handling, the C6 is pretty good, but, for me, the NSX feels more connected to the road and seems to be more lithe. I haven't tracked my C6, but those who have praise its ability. What limits I've tested, I think they are likely correct.

Having disassembled both vehicles to some degree, I will agree with everyone else, the NSX is just engineered to higher standard and put together with care and an extreme attention to detail. The C6, though, is one of the better American made cars and really isn't as bad as some make it out to be.

In the category of reliability, I believe my perspective is skewed for my 1991 has reached the age where it needs a lot of preventive maintenance and repair of failed parts (due to age). My C6 is much newer and so far has been quite good (knockin on wood). So overall, I've spent more in maintenance on the 1991 than on the C6. Also, since the C6 shares components with a number of GM vehicles some of the parts are silly cheap and easy to find.

So would I have bought the C6 if Honda had a new NSX...no. In fact, I believe I will likely get rid of the C6 when the new NSX arrives. I will not get rid of my beloved 1991 NSX (my wife would kill me if I did or have me institutionalized).

Bottom line, if you want a nice daily driver with great performance, you can't go wrong with a C6. The NSX is one of the finest automobile on the road and is in a unique league.

I have read about this before and found it true as well - no idea why.
