hey there:

I've been tasked with putting together a small sidebar on the vaunted NSX.
I mentioned the "10 things you didn't know about the NSX" and the editor went wild.

all I know about the NSX is that is rocks. It is perhaps the one car that actually made me a better driver.

whoever comes up with the best top ten list gets a bucket of Mothers Car care stuff.

thanks

Les

Were you looking for that type of info or more general? For example, the NSX is the world's first production all-aluminum monocoque body.

I suspect that the original poster wanted to say:

"I am writing an article titled "10 Things you didn't know about the NSX" and I am hoping that people here will help me write it by listing out a bunch of things that the general public doesn't know about the NSX. I write for XYZ Magazine and will give a bucket of Mother's car care stuff to whomever helps me out by posting the best top 10 list.

Thanks!"

It is not like he is a writer, so we can't expect that level of clarity from his post, though I did infer the same thing.

goodness...that's a pretty snotty thing to say.

After 25 years in the automotive journalism business, I now remember why I stayed away from the forums.

although most of the folks here are very nice, you sir spoil the bunch.

cheers

I'm going for the bucket.

1) Most bolts are coated to prevent galvanic action between aluminum and iron.
2) The gas tank is in the center so the balance is not affected by how much gas there is.
3) Many different aluminum alloys were used for rigidity in body and chassis.
4) The car comes with an electric air pump to fill the full size collapsible spare tire.
5) Since the radiator is in the front, coolant runs from the middle to the front of the car which requires bleeder valves to fully drain the system.
6) The glass behind the passengers is double glazed for sound insulation.
7) The ABS is a 4 channel system [ most cars are three].
8) There is a clutch damper system to soften engagement.
9) The trunk was designed to fit enough for 2 people for a weekend.
10) If you are delivering pizza, the trunk will keep it warm.
11) There is no make-up mirror. Make-up mirrors do not improve performance.

9) There is no make up mirror on the driver side, there is one on the passenger side.

11) The car trunk was designed with the intent to carry two sets of golf clubs, I have not heard that it was to fit enough for 2 people on the weekend, so correct me if I am wrong (Although the finacee and I do it on a regular basis)

Really two sets of golf clubs?...I am a future NSX owner wandered if 1 set would even fit. Good to know..I would never carry two...but love the idea of carrying one.

Correct----but if the same 2 people are the ones playing golf, they may have to play without a change of clothes, or play without clothes, which you and your fiancee probably do a lot of anyway

Yes, although, I think golf clubs and bags have bloated since the 80's but you should be able to get one in there.

Apropos question. The NSX, primarily designed for the US market (as many cars were and still are) had one specific objective the Honda engineers needed to take into account with their design; it needed to be able to carry two golf bags. Back in the 1980s, Honda's marketing team concluded the target US buyer willing to pay $70K+ were upper class men who most likely played golf. So, in addition to all those SUVs and big sedans, some golf course parking lots would be graced by golf bag carrying supercars.

How often do you take a change of clothes to play golf?...in any case, I would say it's one or the other, golfng or going away for the weekend but not both, unless you plan on renting or buying one or the other!

I play regularly and can fit two sets of clubs in the trunk (but you have to take the golf shoes in the car)

Going for the Bucket:

12) The stock stereo is the weakest link of the car*
*A) 50% of owners don't care B) the other 50% upgrade
13) Conception is possible on driver side, less likely elsewhere.
14) Tire wear is no longer an issue after the second year of ownership; after that, owners look forward to new tires.

15. The max cargo weight is 400 lbs -- that includes the passengers.

16. Due to the light weight aluminum body parts, you can't just let go of the trunk to close it. Once its down, you have to push down on the rear center so that the catch engages.

17. If you're writing for a US audience -- outside the US the car was sold as the Honda NSX.

18. The targa top stores under the rear glass cover (right above the engine).

19. The spare tire is stored under the hood.

20- Electric power steering was used to keep heavier components off.
No neked golf, please.

Great list. I think we can add the following:
12) First use of VTEC in North America
13) First use of Titanium connecting rods
14) Last minute switch from SOHC to DOHC required extending the body by 30 mm
15) Final suspension tuning by F1 legend Ayrton Senna at Nurburgring and Suzuka race tracks
16) Assembled by hand in Japan in a plant specifically built for it
17) Ignition key made of 'unobtainium' ;-))
18) Less than 9000 sold in the US from '91 to '05 model years
19) There is a strong owner's club (NSXCA) and active online participation at NSXPrime web site
20) Early models had a black roof to mimic the cab forward canopy on a fighter jet
21) Chassis stiffness was modelled with a Cray supercomputer
22) Forged aluminum suspension arms
23) 8000RPM redline; 168 mph top speed
24) Unique asymmetric tires designed specifically for the car by Yokohama

1. Targa top also fits in the trunk
2. 97+ aluminum panels are thicker than the na1
3.nsx was inspiration for macleran
4. Your chances of getting layed triple
5. Hefty girls don't like driving in it
6. Cup holder is for show
7. Glove box only stores small bottle of jack daniels, or owners manual.
8. Every time you drive by a corvette they wave to you
9. You can hide your beer behind your seat so cops cant see it when pulled over
10. Some nsx owners put Honda badges on it.

 you've been an automotive journalist for 25 years.....and all you know about the nsx is...."it rocks" Please help us by telling us what publication or website your article will be in and how does the "winner" redeem this bucket of car care products.

He is asking: "10 things you didn't know about the NSX"

15) After the stereo, the window regulator is the next weak link [but there is a fix]
16) Owners realize how perfect the car is [and what the designers wanted us to experience] every time they drive it.
17) Trunk {more} is closed by pushing down so as not to bend it.
18) One of the most satisfying sounds is dropping the hood from 12" to close it.
19) The sound of the air intake in the drivers left ear is: [fill in the blank].
20) Some will do anything for free product

Going for the bucket continued [ you can quote me on this one ]

21) Hookers up their price when they see you [ but they really shouldn't because maintenance and cost of ownership is reasonable for the performance and satisfaction delivered].
