The Negatives of the NSX 2.0

Let's say we do a blind test and remove badges and logos from the following cars:

(and then show an NSX 1.0)
With people not aware of the 2.0 of course, which one do you think they'll pick as a successor to the NSX 1 ?
I'll do the test with some people around me who arent into cars but know how my NSX looks like.

(edit: to be honest that badge on the Saleen picture can be mistaken for a red Honda logo..)

I think there too many flaws in this situation.

-Many non-car people do not know what an NSX is, so it's not really going to aid in your cause.
-There is a 25 year gap in the two productions. The NSX is not like the Corvette or 911, where there is a new generation every 6-8 years with gradual evolution. The Stingray from 1960s looks nothing like the Stingray of today for instance.

One can expect the car to be radically different being so many generations about technologically, but it can still pay homage.

N Spec, looking at your pictures couple of thoughts come to mind. First it appears the 488 has a longer rear overhang and is altogether longer?

Second, it seems the comparison with the Vette would be easier to understand if you placed the front wheels at the same place ie perfectly on top of each other

Also you did not read my post, i clearly state that the subjects know my NSX so, yes they perfectly know what it looks like.

I think the fixation on a proper looking successor is in the eye of the beholder.

The 488/458 is slightly longer and has a much longer nose/overhang.

The Corvette has a shorter over hang, but longer hood.

Go look at the video and pics I posted in the thread properly. The nose did not magically get longer. I showed you the effect on the showroom car from the same day, but different cameras/photographers.

You're in denial if you think that the prototype unveiling and latest photoshoot cars have new front bumpers.

Again, the nose has always been long and sharp. Clearly thinner than the Corvette and 458/488 as I have stated.
 
How about calling it "NSX" then ? A name has a meaning, and in this case a legacy.

And in my eyes, it's a proper NSX successor in a new generation. In others' eyes, apparently it is not, because they believe it looks radically different. The car is 25 years apart, so one should expect the car to change for times. If there was an in between step, the evolution would be more obvious. That's my take on the situation.
 
I have to admit, you make a very reasonable point here. Something mildly evolutionary after 25 years would probably get even more scrutiny by the media and more importantly the potential prospects.

It would have kept the peace to not name it NSX. Honda sure didn't build a legacy car except by the most vivid imaginations. Oh and it's only been 10 years since the NSX was retired so it could have easily been reverent, if not evolutionary. Keeping the name means a lot and they did a disservice to the car and to themselves IMO. And what's the experiment here anyway, the three HyperCars have already completed and put into production the experiment by now while Honda is back at the drawing board making excuses for more delays. Too little, too late Honda. Maybe your experiment is how to make that tech cheaper while plastering your brand face on a sports car that had already been done before too. New acura brand face on existing Sportscar for an eXperiment that has already been done.
 
Personally the looks of the car don't disappoint me. The price does. I must be old school but I'm saving my money for a GT4 that's 80k less and has a manual transmission. I want a car that drives like a race car not interested in looking exotic. Already have a Nsx for that

While i agree fully on this, i dont think the car itself can be called "too little too late", it's far from the pricing of above mentioned hypercars, and will very probably offer top notch performance. I look forward to see the cornering performance especially.
Like i said on another thread here i have seen the car in person, i understand how some people will think it's an Audi, and while the general shape has its merits the front end is definitely a miss. The impression i had when seeing it was "interesting..." in a puzzled way, but not "I want to sit in there and drive it !". The first NSX is still a head turner to this day, my two last sessions on twisty mountain roads here were punctuated by crossing villages with people filming my car with their smartphones.. I wonder wether the new one will have that effect or not, to me it seems more "anonymous" and less "iconic" if you see what i mean.
 
Spot on here Zoom. "Interesting" is the word I used when I saw it in person too. The hard part for me is that with a few tweaks, it could be one one the most beautiful, aggressive and unique front ends in production.
 
Interesting is what I would say about it if I were pulling punches. Like in meetings when I say "that's a bold choice" I mean "are you effing crazy". [emoji23]
 
VF that comparison is also "interesting" lol. I get your point - trying to find a styling successor to the original. However, to me, the Astin looks pretty nice if you your going for that catfish look lol.
 

I do like that Aston Concept. I thought the proportions are the epitome of a wedge shaped sports car, very much like the NSX and Ferraris/Lambos of the 80s/90s. However, there is a reason why the production 2002+ NSX and any modern sports cars sadly does not look like the stylized sketch shown above. Speaking of which:

Ever since my detailed study and tinkering of the new NSX, I've always seen the first gen NSX in the 2nd gen. They truly did not just scrap the first gen design and start fresh. The proportions/layout of the first gen lives on as you can see. Most people are just distracted by the controversial flying buttress elements. I still firmly believe the new car looks like an NSX:

You just hear the negativity much louder over the positivity any day. Look at the news for instance. How often do they report constructive news or news about people succeeding?

Precisely. It would be deemed non-evolutionary or a sellout like a remake in Hollywood.

Honda/Acura has dug themselves in the hole with styling and directional choices that are considered baffling to most of the auto enthusiasts. If the new NSX would have looked like a LaFerrari or McLaren, people would still complain. I think a lot of the hate stems from Acura's brand image as a whole currently.
 
I think you did not read our posts. The shape is relatively OK (although it seems a bit of a fatty in person) but the front end is really a point of failure here. And no, it doesnt look like an NSX any more that an R8 or a C7 do. In any case it's not "wedge shaped" anymore, and gone is the F16 cockpit...

We'll agree to disagree. Like I said, some people are distracted by the controversial flying buttresses. Take away the flying buttress elements on side and front bumper. The wedge shape is there and the frontend could have more conventional design. The C pillar is under the arch and the rear end's tail is wedge shape:

Not the best chop, but you can see the proportions of the original NSX is there. The details have just changed drastically.
 
Well if we start going there, any sports car has got the looks and proportions of the NSX 1.0.. Also photoshopping the shape of the car to make your point is a bit dishonest: i could take a Mustang and make it look like a Ferrari with the same kind of logic.
How cant you admit it's not even looking close, it's so obvious. That model has got the Acura brand engraved on its front end, for worse i think, and the shape and proportions of an Audi R8 more than the original. That we put photos of the Esprit and Saleen prototypes just in front of you didnt change your repeated argument about the flying buttress and so on (which was never the point, if you read our posts)... For me and a few others who have seen the car, we still dont really understand why it's called "NSX" to be honest.
