My story of my 130r white NSX discount

Just Picked up my 2017 NSX yesterday. The options are as follows 130 r white black alacantra with semi aniline leather, iron rotors not tech package, standard wheels. Sticker was a little over 160k. The following is just my opinion of why i chose the lesser optioned car over the more fully loaded ones so please no one take offense as i understand some of the more fully optioned cars will appeal to some.

I looked at several NSX some fully optioned with stickers over 205k carbon fibre etc ceramic brakes both types driven on test drives. When driving the cars on the street there was no discernible difference when panic stopping the cars between carbon ceramic and iron rotors. The ceramics would only be beneficial if tracking the car to avoid fade which the nsx specialist confirmed. As far as the carbon fibre its personal preference but i did not like the look of the spoiler and the matte carbon fibre engine was barely noticeable when compared to the standard black plastic through the glass. Also coming from an R8 with the gloss carbon fibre vs the matte I preferred the leather and alacantra in the NSX it reminded me of the Mclaren and the matte carbon fibre looked too much like plastic much like on the new R8. I felt it looked cheap. I did like the look of the gloss carbon fibre on the roof but for $6k no thanks. As far as the stereo the standard audio system really sounds good hooked up to the iPhone through bluetooth and siri eyes on work really well for voice commands and the apple CarPlay works well for navigation so no need for the Acura based navigation system on the ELS. I am missing front and rear sensors though but the camera is very good and I have curbed my R8 with front sensors many times so no big deal.

Now how does it feel coming from two Porsches and an Audi R8? Honestly This car feels like it can bend space and time with its acceleration in the more aggressive sport plus mode the steering tightens considerably and the car just stays glued to the road I mean WOW!! the Gs this thing can pull. This car is superior in every way compared to The outgoing R8 and the new one ( not to mention I believe Audi ruined the styling on the new R8) I absolutely love this car after looking at Porsche twin turbos new R8s and Mclarens this one just does it for me. I also love the fact that it is less common and is an Acura as i know it will be reliable. Also the warranty on this car is second to none covering the battery and electrical motors for 8 years and the long powertrain warranty etc. Try getting that in a Mclaren..........

So my numbers were as follows the sticker on my car was just over $160k and I walked away with $38k off ($122k not including tax). So I got $38k off a base car. I feel I did pretty good. The cheaper cars like mine (If you can consider 160k cheap..) are all selling out fast and i don't believe the will be discounted as heavily much longer. The more expensive cars $200k plus will be heavily discounted. I was offered a blue pearl fully loaded every option car for under $155k the sticker on that one was over $205k the dealer then claimed he could go lower but was playing the game that I had to come in. Honestly I have learned my lesson with buying fully optioned cars as the depreciation is just not worth it and the cool thing about the NSX versus Porsche or the R8 is you get the same badass engine suspension etc no matter what trim you choose. Even if its iron rotors the car still stops very close to the ceramic brakes.

bottom line I love the car it has some quirks like you do hear wind noise by the pillars at about 80mph but i believe its because the cabin is so freaking quiet(I am going to see if Acura can adjust the Glass on when the first service is due). Also you do have to get used to some strange noises with the whirring and whining of electrical motors and power regeneration. Also with how the car switches between EV mode and full power. But honestly this is the stuff that makes the car so damn cool. I mean its basically a Porsche 918 but a more reliable one.

All in all guys this car is phenomenal and if anyone wants to know where the blue one is with the scout let me know they also had a black one fully loaded. I am happy to help.

120k! That is awesome! Congrats.

Congrats, nice write up.....

The right way to get a '17 NSX....you did good!

Thanks guys for the compliments, if anyone is on the fence about getting one or has any questions just post them here. I am in Florida so maybe i could help you and give you some dealers names that seem like they were willing to deal. Also thanks to members RSO 34, Tom 329, and may more for making the specifics of the deal available. It is a $30k incentive given to the dealer if financed through Acura you must finance a minimum of $30k for at least 2 years and this incentive is taxed. Again on the more expensive cars like the Blue one I mentioned with the orchid full leather interior sticker was over 205k but dealer discounted to just under $155k so there is more room on those. $38k seems about the absolute limit or close to it on the cheaper ones.

The problem I was having was every time I found one for 160k within a day it was gone. I lost several that way at various dealers . As I was buying the car on Saturday there were several calls coming in asking about mine.

As far as the ceramic brakes vs the iron rotors at first I really wanted the ceramic brakes but every car I looked at with them was so fully loaded it bloated the price over $205k. If I could have found one without all the carbon fibre and just the ceramics I probably would have done that. But after talking with the NSX tech and experiencing the stopping power of both I realized it really was not necessary for me but more of a cool factor thing. Though I understand Maintenance wise they are supposed to last forever but I have heard of instances on other vehicle models when they do not and supposedly replacements cost somewhere between $2k to $4k a wheel. Again if i could have found one with them i would have gone that route.

Also for anyone waiting for a bottom at this point I don't care if they go lower(I doubt the cheaper ones will) I am happy with what I have done. Try finding a car like this from any other manufacturer at this price point with these discounts. This is just like with stocks if you keep waiting for a bottom this opportunity will pass you by! ( remember all of those people waiting for a bottom on Tesla stock now they are kicking themselves)

I do think fully loaded models will go lower but cheaper ones will disappear or discounts will lessen on those. I believe someone on this forum stated some dealers had dropped the discounts to $14k on cheaper models here as a day ago they were more. And with the 2018s only being made on an as ordered basis you are going to see a lot less of these cars as i believe there are only between 200 and 260 of these left and some of those are used.

to the people that keep bringing up Mclaren The warranty is only 3 years and powertrain warranty 3 years (vs 4 years warranty 6 year powertrain 8 year EV components) and you are looking at a lot of cash to extend that warranty something like $4k year. That is lack of confidence in their product. So no comparison there. Also after talking with NSX tech about maintenance of vehicle though the oil changes are expensive (and complicated) there are really no secret uber expensive services.

Regarding mandatory financing for 2 years......Bought a new '13 BMW w/a big factory rebate, but rebate only if you financed w/BMW finance & paid on the contract for at least 12 months.

Paid off after 30 days and that was that. YMMV

Not sure it's even legal to require people to finance......this is not leasing.

Any good finance rates from american honda?

2.9 to 3.9 but leans more toward 3.9 because of being a luxury vehicle also they gotta make money somehow! I financed min so again very happy. so they are gonna make $2400 of me but i got 38k plus off the car. plus there was some other voodoo worked on the numbers which made the taxes better.

awesome posts. i am in a 911 turbo S now and am thinking of making the jump with the discounts so good right now it makes sense. just nervous ive had 5 911's including 3 turbos and i love them but this car is so damn cool. any body have any regrets? words of wisdom?

honestly you probably could do that but those our the supposed terms I mean if you are financing like 100k I could see the higher rate being a problem after a few years. The salesperson was saying you could switch lenders at a certain point for a better rate.

I was in that situation making a decision between the 911 turbo (not the S) McLaren 570 as well as new R8. And you are right this car is so damn cool but like i said there are quirks but that is what makes it so incredible. The 911 turbo S is about the fastest car you can buy but the uniqueness of the Acura the styling, the hybrid drivetrain. The fact that you won't see them everywhere like a 911. Even if they sold every car available right now there would be less of these things on the road than about every other fairly exotic vehicle (R8 LAMBO etc). So the car is rare.

I now the 911 turbo is fast but the NSX acceleration feels like a cross between a 911 turbo and a Tesla p100d. Its like a combination of the two. If the 911 turbo is a time warp the NSX feels like it bends space and time with the combo of the twin turbo v6 and the pulling from the electric motors. There is literally no turbo lag because of that electric motor in the rear.

(Here is the ridiculous science fiction analogy) Its almost like if you are looking at a quarter mile stretch of road in the NSX and you put it in launch mode. That it takes the road folds it up and you come out on the other side. like you pass through a black hole. The feeling it gives you in your chest with those turbos and electric motors it is like nothing else.

Sure there are faster cars but really not many and not with this type of feeling.

Excellent purchase.

The financing trough Acura is different. My credit union has terrific rates 1.99 for 60 months, 2.5 for 72 and 2.99 for 84.

If I could find a brand new white or red NSX at the price you did. I would seriously consider purchasing one. Wonder if the dealers discounting the inventory, take trade-ins. I would have to trade in my current NSX.

Time to start searching.

So awesome thanks. I got to get one. I'll let you know.

Congrats, you did great. At this price point nothing is better IMO. Maybe now more people will appreciate the car. It has a ton of untapped potential in terms of performance.

For you guys that are always talking about the NSx is not fast enough check these vids out
It took place at Utah, very high altitude where NSX being turbo and hybrid has advantage over others. If one say NSX is slow then GTR must be slow. They both are very comparable. NSX is just a lot more sexy and more fun to drive.

Thanks for sharing your buying/early ownership experience in a detailed manner.

I celebrate the success of others and say well done sir.

It will be great to have some more happy owners around here.

I do fear that some early purchase owners will be ticked off about how Acura and their dealers have behaved/performed in light of the fire sales.

Thank you, I think the early adopters will be upset but the same thing happened with the McLaren MP4 12 C as well as 650 s. Those owners lost well over 100k on those cars with mclaren releasing new improved models and not holding their value as well as massive discounts.

We also see this at the end of the year on lots of exotics Jaguar SVR, BMW I8 for example as well as Audi R8 and in some cases 911 turbos etc. I think the market will normalize for the NSX and the price point will be between 130k and 170k that would leave room for negotiation of a fair price.

point taken about the altitude still a very fast car and in the top 3 or 4 with this group. definitely gets the jump off the line thats for sure.
