A conversation i had, "so not worth it" huh? wtf ?

I chose my 02 NSX over the 911 TT. The only thing in the Pcar line that is of interest to me is the GT3. The rest of them can continue to be bought and painted pink by fairies like Red for all I care.

Well I guess this is the silly season, so I think I will kick in my opinion. I have been a bike guy for the last 50 years, no car will ever completely win me over because most cars are pretty tame in the $ over excitement stakes. 10 sec. quarters and 0-60 in the 2 sec. range can be had for less than $15k brand new, 14000 rpm? nothing, so it's going to take more than performance to get us going.
A year ago the opportunity to own a '91 NSX for $20k appeared, (you can't get a new Civic for that!) I baulked, but the wife said, buy it!....what would you do? It had a fairly complete service history, so I did. It safetied and emission tested no problem and our first trip took us over 1500 kms in a week end without a hitch.
OK, no big deal, any current minivan will do that easily...but the GPS said our average was 123kph and we went through Montreal at 4pm on Friday! This is the first car I've owned that didn't feel slow, and that includes your air-cooled Porsches.
But it's not just performance, if you have the slightest bit of engineering appreciation have a look under your car, Honda never borrowed parts from the rest of the range (please don't compare it with the the TL or any of that stuff), Honda thought the car was important enough to make special parts for a special car, Lotus built their cars (and still do) from whatever happened to be available, I bet you'll find production parts on a Ford GT. Honda must have lost millions to provide you with a brilliant car that you can own for so little.
So...it's not a bike, but I challenge anyone to come up with such a beautifully made performance car that is so competent in so many areas, even after all this time, that is so affordable and so rewarding.

$20K???

Man, I paid almost $14k in taxes alone for mine!!!!

Let me know next time you find a deal like that!!! Tell you what John - I will buy it from you for $25k!!! That is a 25% gain after driving the car for a year.

I can somewhat see where he is coming from. I am really itching for another X, some of you guys calling me doesn't help either, but it all depends on where I want to go with it. Some of you know that can exceed the cost of lets say an 07 Z06 WITH WARRANTY ($60K-70K). I had well over that in my X without warranty. No doubt the X is awesome, but financially these days there may be some other options that may be more interesting. And this is the problem I face. If i buy another X, I will boost it again, 300hp is just not enough these days. Especially when you have stangs and civics already pushing those numbers. I'm kinda torn between the 2.........

Buy an Ariel Atom for $50,000 and an early NSX for $30,000. The Atom will be faster than the Z06 and you still have the NSX for leisurely cruises.

Yeah, well that's a lot better than my investments are doing and it's more fun too! I think I'll drive it for another year.

Damthatbeaver, we care about you!
you'll definite be on the vin list.
My brothers Cayman is in today, he will go see it and they will bring it over to his parkade on a flatbed. Hope I get to see it as well. Maybe he will take me around his parking lot for a ride, wow, round and round and round, hey, he will be a good drifter by the time spring comes.

So I'm having this Acura conversation with some TL advocates, and stated my outspoken viewpoint of how excited I am about getting my 92, '94, or later NSX.

This jo blo states how getting an NSX "is so not worth it.. "

When they come over to my house again this week, any suggestions on how to rebut, retort this statement without asking them to "leave" .. heh
When you see Joe Blow tell him I said he's a BAFOON! I like apples and I like oranges. EACH has their use in life. The TL is a nice car. Just can't remember the last time I saw one racing down the front stretch hitting 220km/h and then doing hard on threshold braking to enter turn one at 150 - over and over and over I might add. TL is like my S60R (well sort of - slower). A nice ride with quality and some pep for driving the family and friends around. I'm sure your buddy pics up chicks with the family sedan all the time compared to you with the exotic.....

Envy (Latin, invidia)

Main articles: Envy (jealousy)

Like Greed, Envy is characterized by an insatiable desire; they differ, however, for two main reasons. First, Greed is largely associated with material goods, whereas Envy may apply more generally. Second, those who commit the sin of Envy desire something that someone else has which they perceive themselves as lacking. Dante defined this as "love of one's own good perverted to a desire to deprive other men of theirs." In Dante's Purgatory, the punishment for the envious is to have their eyes sewn shut with wire, because they have gained sinful pleasure from seeing others brought low. Thomas Aquinas described Envy as "sorrow for another's good" [2].

Hey Blade...your post reminds me of my Political Science Degree when I studied political philosophy - who thought that we would equate Thomas Aquinas to owning an NSX...lol...just think what we could do with Plato's Allegory of the cave and NSX ownership!!

Dam

Ah, but would selling the NSX, and freeing oneself of material goods, be analogous to the ascension from the cave into the sun? Speaking of which, I wish it would stop raining so I can go drive my lovely tangible shadow on the wall:biggrin:

But when we ascend from the cave into the sun...then do we not discover the "true and perfect" form?...Just think...we could drive the most perfect form of the NSX...lol...and to think that I thought that I already owned the NSX in its perfect form...lol.

I also can use my education to talk about the NSX...

Not quite as elegant as you guys, haha.

I have NA 1991 #3169 if anyone cares and after reading the post about that silly NSX basher, just take him for a ride. make his ASS create diamonds because he has it clenched so hard and when your done ask him if his TL can do that. hahahahaha

Perhaps we should forward this philosophy to those who are working on the AHEM "next" NSX, or the so-called "NSX Replacement"

What's scarier is when you can actually start decoding this to ASCII in your head!! I need to spend more time away from my computer ;)

That reminds me of when I was modelling the shoulder mathematically for my thesis, and I remember trying to Integrate sleep dx in my head so I could fall asleep. You need a break Arshad. Now get to work on those graphics we need instead!

I understand why the NSX is so not worth it to them - the TL has a back seat you can make out with all the hot chicks you can pick up while driving around in it - with the NSX you have to take them home 1st (or take the roof off)

Yes, there is an existential argument here for the TL drivers too:
What's the the sound of one hand stroking off? :)

I sold my 996 TT and bought an NSX - WAY more fun to drive, I have had the fortune to either own or drive many of the world's great sportscars and sedans and I can say the NSX is right up there - the difference is most noticeable when I talk to my friends with Ferraris and they say they don't drive them a lot because they can't park them anywhere - My NSX IS my daily driver all summer (8,000 MILES a summer) I could do that in a TL - but why would I? Life is too short to drive a boring car.

A wise friend told me once that you buy a certain car for how it makes you feel when you look at it and drive it. I bought my 93 about 12 years ago and only put about 3K a year on it. I tinker with it frequently and while it's sort of a garage queen, I do drive it relatively hard when I can. I think about someday meeting the individuals that built my car and seeing how proud they must be of engineering and building such an object of art. I'll never sell it, they can bury me it.
