BMW i8 = new NSX killer - Maybe?

I don't know about better but it's certainly nice looking (there's a spyder version too), and it's not a 2 seater like the new NSX will be. If the production version looks like the concept, I wouldn't mind owning one though. :cool:
 
I just watched a video (on marketwatch.com) with a few blurbs from the head of BMW R&D. He said the i8 should be in production in 2015. The next few years are going to bring out some very interesting cars.

Whenever I see anything that cool looking I rarely get past the first few pictures because the pictures tell me all I need to know like....this car is so cool looking it will never be built and sold to the public so don't waste your time even thinking about it.
 
I'm getting tired of seeing every new concept car coming with 27" rims. It's going to cost $1000 to put tires on the cheapest put-put car in 5 years from now(because no car will be offered with smaller than 17" rims...) :rolleyes:

I suspected as much. I have owned and tracked BMW cars and motorcycles and have nothing but good to say about them. German engineering is some of the best in the world. I also suspect the i8 will outperform the new NSX in almost every way (except maybe price). We'll wait and see.
 
I like the looks of this BMW i8.
However, it also look like a lot of 'concept' cars that I have seen.
Most often, by the time the car goes into real world production, a lot of that 'special' looks have dissapeared.

Come to think of it, overhere in Europ, I am seeing more and more examples of this car:

I don't know if it is available in this US, but this Fisker Karma looks a lot like this BMW i8 concept car. It has a total of 408 HP and has a total of 969 Lbs of torque (YES, you read that right, 969 Lbs of torque (1300 Nm).

However, the battery pack of this Fisker Karma is also very large and heavy, making for a very long (and sleek) car and 2400 kg = 5300 lbs of weight.
It is certainly not a slow car, but with a top speed of just 125 mph and 5.9 sec 0-100kph it is not match for the current/old NSX.
 
The i8 was featured in MI4. The concept is cool as hell, but I'm skeptical of the production version looking anything like it. Also, a 0-60 of 4.9s and top speed of 155mph does not scream anything killer to me. Nevertheless, I appreciate and enjoyed the design study.

If you saw the i8 in person, you thoughts will change. Those tires are narrow, it’s not a GT sports car set-up, and it’s focused on green. i8 and NSX gen II are two different things.

:smile: I love BMW, and first car in my life was 96' 325is.
