Check Engine Light

My '91 has recently begun illuminating the check engine light which then alternates with the TCS light and back again. I tried the "paper clip" method to see if I could get the codes, but no dice.

Does anyone have suggestions for a mechanic in the Portland/Vancouver area that I could rely upon to check this problem out?
