Correct socket size for an OEM oxygen sensor - 1995

I am replacing my O2 sensor (what a job) so I went and bought the special socket but it slips. It is a pretty thick socket so just wanted to make sure it was the right size. It isn't metric so I question it.

The socket I bought is 7/8 inch.

If I am not mistaken. I believe the correct size is either a 21 or a 22. I know it states in the maintenance manual( the big one) if you are lucky enough to have one. I don't have mine infront of me. But I have done mine many times over and I know its in there.. Just my helpful information if it does.

22mm box end wrench or 7/8 will work

I found the best O2 Sensor tool at AutoZone. It IS NOT the one that looks like a deep socket with a slot in the side. It was only around $10. This tool works great. Or you can go with this kit for $25. I couldn't find just the single one on their web site. It is like one of the ones in this kit.

+1. I have both and almost never used the deep socket.

Just be sure you dont use an impact gun when installing these o2 sensors..

they dont have to be that tight! half a turn past finger tight is plenty! Otherwise the threads on the o2 sensor will be stripped and if you take it out again it will be unusable! :redface:
