Dealers combing their dusty databases to try to move 2018 cars

And the fact that the car's sun visors do not tilt to the side window in late day driving is a really bad oversight. It also needs a grab handle on the passenger side for people to hang onto during hard runs and for getting in and out of the car......

I've been to my local dealer VanDegriff 3 times over the last several years about the new NSX. Once to get on "the list"..they lost it.
Once after it came out and I went in they ignored me for 30 minutes cuz I was dressed in dirty work clothes (I do landscape lighting) ...by by !
And lastly spent two hours with their "NSX specialist" who double dog promised me a call when he could find a deal on a 17...nothing.

IDIOTS !

I’ve heard the $30k incentive has been extended. I got that info when I went to the Honda Proving Grounds.

I have a buddy that just got back from his session at the proving grounds. He told me there was zero mention of the continued incentives. That doesn't mean it's not happening though.

It wasn't hard find a deal on a 2017 all I had to do was use google and viola!
Sorry you missed out.

You have to bird dog them yourself. That’s how you find the best deals.

the bigger tell is year to date...............I think the incentive may come back...or better lease numbers.

I tried to buy the one in Kentucky but we couldn’t come to terms. I would have been number 6. I really hope acura puts some incentive soon because I’m going after an LC.

OUCH indeed....... Do we know if this is only 2018 models or does it include leftover new 2017's ??? Either way, that is sad. Hard to interpret how this will affect values of the existing cars and even the future of the NSX...... It appears that the loss of the Acura incentive has contributed to prices staying up. There are still plenty of low mile used ones for sale at reasonable prices. I think, over time, people will eventually understand what a unique car this is and prices will stabilize. It will be interesting to see what happens to pricing in 2019 when lease returns start coming in with 15-25K miles on them......

The sales number is dreadful

Audi moved 138 R8 units in April 2018 compared to 5 NSX sales in the US

At least they are keeping them scarce on the lots, 28 new ones on Cars.com, 9 of which are 2018 cars

It's any model-year of the car, regardless of how long it's been sitting on a showroom floor. (See the CRZ sales, for example, despite the last year being 2016 for them.)

D’oh!

Buyers are probably holding out until the end of the year hoping Acura/Honda bring back the incentives.

The market for $150k+ sports cars is made up of savvy and/or “impulse” buyers. The impulse buyers picked one up when released in its first year and the savvy buyers snapped up the discounts at the end of the year. Anyone left will now wait for the inevitable discounting that will have to occur again including attractive lease deals and we won’t see sales spike again until then. The sales numbers last year were driven mainly by dealers grabbing them which destroyed the cachet of a “build to order” car.

It is a great car that sadly will fade away sooner rather than later due to a marketing, and pricing, disaster.

P.s. and I would have grabbed one during the fire sale if not for a college tuition drain of $130k per year for two daughters.....

RSO 34, you hit the nail on the head and wrote just what I was thinking.
I expect sales to stay at roughly five per month from now on.
They've already sold the vast majority of Gen 2 NSX's that are ever going to be sold, barring major changes that inspire more impulse buyers, or major discounts to attract more savvy buyers.

My dealer experience was fantastic. I think that the car does everything great but nothing outstanding. It is mid pack on the race track. Mid pack on HP. Everybody has a car that does something better than an NSX. But park an R8, P car or even a Lambo out front of the trendy restaurant valet next to my NSX. I bet you 10-1 people look at and ask questions about the
NSX. And just about everybody comments on how groundbreaking and cool the first NSX was.

I imagine Ohio was expecting to produce 50-75 cars a month. They must be laying off 75% of their employees with the release of those sales numbers.

If they want to spur sales a few things MUST change.

1) Better tires from the factory.
2) Better exhaust sound. I just put the SOS mid pipes on yesterday. Video of the sound does not do it justice. It's now where it should have been in stock form. And its quiet enough in the cabin to use my cell phone.
3) Crappy cup holder is crappy. Visor sucks. Really? No mirror.
4) I don't really like the "MDX" infotainment system. I cant even change the XM station from the wheel! (ok you can go through presets but not up 1 channel at at time from the wheel.)
5) More HP! This car needs more punch when the electrics phase out. AKA mid range.
6) 0-60 is fine at roughly 3 seconds but just increasing the RPM's by 500-1000 during launch mode would get her sub 3's 0-60.
7) 1/4 mile in the low 11's is pretty good. But breaking into the 10's consistently would be more for bragging rights.
8) Fix the damn windshield, squeaks and window noise just because. I have 2 out of 3 of these issues.

The funny thing is all of these updates would cost very very little to implement. A little press that "this time they got it right" Might attract more buyers. Do a mid year "refresh".
Offer the software upgrade for more HP to all existing buyers like McLaren did a few yeas back. Brand loyalty is important. Had they introduced this car in 2013 when it should have, it would have been hailed as a new dynasty. Pulling loyal owners from other premium brands is very very tough at this point.

haha is FA the derogatory nsx thesaurus....

right docjohn, because those sales numbers don't speak (loudly) for themselves? :rolleyes2:

mate, send your daughters to Germany. college tuition drain of $000k per year...

This a great post. I bet most of your wish list will be filled in the next refresh. I’m not talking about the $1/4 million “R”. Cup holders are not a small thing. I hate touch screens and the finger prints. The drive modes should be customizable, or throw in one custom mode. I wish sport mode kept the gas motor on all the time.

They should invite all prime members to Ohio for a real focus group—-and listen.

In reality the Prime membership, at least the "originals" from the Gen 1 days, is not the target buying demographics. The Gen 1 owners/members of the NSXCA are not even the targeted demographics albeit there are a number of our members who have purchased the Gen 2.

At $200k they were looking to entice a different corner of the market and although they have been great with us the bottom line is if we are not feeding their bottom line we are not the right focus group.

those exact same sentiments have been echoed a time or two before now...

Sorry, I don’t spend much time reading every post. As a member since 2001 I just recently started looking at Gen 2 posts because I want one. 😬. I guess I’ll wait until the end of the year and see if another incentive program happens. Thanks for your reply.
