As for the Snap ring, you need to get the serial numbers off the transmission and look in FAQ for the faulty #'s....

That is absolutely true. However, the transmissions in the snap ring range were installed during initial assembly for roughly the last ~20 percent of 1991 model year production and the first ~50 percent of 1992 model year production.

I would estimate that the probability that this car had a transmission in the snap ring range at the time that it left the factory is approximately 100 percent. Whether the snap ring and transmission case have been replaced since then, you'll have to find out from the owner.

At worst, you could get these parts replaced for a couple grand and not have to worry about it ever again...
