Engine Sticking out

Id rather put a 1000cc motocycle engine in a smart car

First I'd do this:

My friend who has his own Honda shop in Vancouver, WA did this swap and made his own mounts. CL Type S engine and 6-speed tranny with factory LSD, he got the swap for something like $1k. Believe he ran a 12.7 1/4 with just a test pipe, exhaust, and open intake. I think it ended up weighing only something like 60lbs more than the original engine, although I'm not sure if he had to take out A/C. Sorry for the vagueness. People may not like the weight and engine sticking out thing, but 12s with a virtually stock engine (and stock reliability), a 6spd and an LSD for less than the cost of a typical GS-R engine is pretty cool.

He actually let me drive it and that thing was a hoot. Great power everywhere, and sounded NSX-like. Definitely makes people turn their heads like "wtf?!" He sold it a while back and I was pretty pissed he didn't let me know ahead of time so I could buy it!
 
Audi has spent years trying to get the engine to sit behind the front axel, and not it's hip to front load a car like a fat kid on a teeter totter. :rolleyes:
