Hello fellow primers,
I’ve had my NSX for about 10 months now and I think it’s time I got around to telling my story.
I’ve owned a few cars in my life so far and have pretty much modded and tracked all of them. 91 MR2 Turbo, 06 S2000, 98 ITR, 03 DC5, 04 EP3,03 CBR 600rr 08 CBR 600rr. But throughout all my cars and bikes I’ve always lusted after a NSX.
I’ve always kept my eye open for "the one" but I didn’t really start looking seriously until early last year. I knew what I wanted: GPW 1991-1994 with not too many owners and maintenance records. 1991 – 1994 because it was a coupe and the lightest and stiffest. GPW to match my S2000. Alas GPW was very difficult to find. My second colour choice was BB, I found 2 that fit the criteria. 1 in Florida and 1 in California. Florida was closer, it had the front end conversion done but did not have the timing belt done recently and the asking price was a bit higher than I wanted to pay. The California one had the timing belt done recently and I felt a better connection with the seller.

The next difficult part was convincing my fiancé 10 days before our wedding that I wanted to fly to LA and drive 4,056 km back to Toronto for the car of my dreams. She was not too happy but I got the OK.
Next step find an insurance company that would insure me from Canada without seeing the car.
Realizing neither buyer nor seller was willing to compromise with money transfers or cheques. I had to think outside the box. Solution…..bring cash =/ This was very scary and not something I will do again.
I asked my cousin if he was up for a 40 hour drive across the USA and he responded “sure” great groomsman.

Anywho here are some pictures of our adventure that did not go that smoothly but was still super fun.

With about 6 hours and 40min left to the border. I was doing a night stint 2 am and a racoon jumped out in front. I could not swerve so I hit him dead on. John was sleeping and awoke when I shouted at the racoon. He asked if it was a person and I said no. He then replied good. Lol
We got off the highway right away and noticed green fluid dripping from the front of the car. Stupid racoon had somehow put a hole in the rad even though there was no visible damage to the rad and not much to the bumper. We tried taking as much of the front end apart with what little tools we had, then just decided to call a tow truck. Tow truck picked us up 7 hours later and towed us into this tiny town of 160 people. Town mechanic had never seen a Ferrari before. No sir it’s a Honda. Are your sure young man? Yes I’m sure. No Acura dealers had readily available rads for a 91 nsx. I was freaking out at this point. Stranded in this little town and there was no way I could tow the car 400miles home. Called home wife was not too happy. Then I remembered seeing a rad for sale on prime a few months ago. Contacted the guy. 300 for the rad 450 to ship next day. Done and we were off the following day.

i remember that BB florida downforce 02+ conversion nsx. the 2 tone seats turned me off but otherwise i felt it was a nice car at a decent price.

What a great story! I was  when I read the part about the damaged radiator and being stuck in the middle of nowhere. Glad you were able to get that sorted out, and in such a quick fashion. Prime rocks!

Loved the trip. I always wanted to do a cross country drive. Whats your SN on S2ki? Do you still own the s2000? I used to have AP2 2005, NFR w/ Hardtop and RPF1s.

Mind posting some of your GPW?

Thanks guys

wow that is amazing, talk about one understanding wife lol when i saw the picture with antifreeze under the NSX i was like NOOO then i stop and read that you hit a racoon, glad you got it all fixed. Ive seen pictures of your s2000 on s2ki.com and your killing it in looks props to you sir. I hope one day I can experience picking up a car and traveling cross country.

So, any problems transporting a lot of cash over the border????

Great trip, minus the raccoon incident of course!

It was very nerve wracking. They gave me a bit of trouble at the airport when I declared it and told them the pupose. They forced us to wait in this little room for a very long time.

you were smart to declare it!!!!

if you didn't they would likely assume it would be for drug money or something.
