Fellow NSXers.

My NSX's radar detector windshield mount broke a few months ago and I've been looking around for a new detector since then.

Anywho I found a killer deal on the BELtronics Vector 995 detector at my local RadioShack and it appears to be a nationwide markdown. The list price is $299 and the current clearance sale price in RadioShack stores is only $79.97.

BEL and Escort are part of the same company and the internal components of the 995 are apparently the same as the well known Escort 8500 x50 which goes for $275 right now on Amazon.

The item number to check online for your local store stock is #220-0114.

Actually another one of my local stores had one for only $65.97! So I snapped up that one too!

For those thinking that this is some crappy bottom of the line detector it is actually the best in the BEL Vector lineup and has rated quite highly from multiple sources. It comes with a nice nylon zippered carrying case, windshield mount with an extra pair of suction cups, and a "SmartCord". This power cord has a built in warning light and mute button if you want to use the detector in stealth mode with the display off. Best of all the detector is compatible with and can control the add on Escort ZR4 laser jammer system for added protection.

Here are some reviews:

Where they directly compared it to the Escort 8500 x50 on 11/2011

Chosen as best detector under $299 on 2/2012

Apparently better detection over a hill at 1/2 mile than the Valentine 1.

And from BEL's website:

Vector 995 Radar Detector
"Vector 995's performance is stunning! It's truly the new, long range detection champion!"
- Speed Measurement Labs

"...10 times more sensitive than ordinary detectors!"
- Georgia Tech Research Institute

"...no other brand, including the higher-priced Valentine One, was as effective in seeking out these critical traffic monitoring devices."
- radartest.com

Good luck!

Also for those international travellers apparently this detector can also detect Ku band which is used abroad.

For US models the Ku setting is turned off by default.

That is a great deal on a great detector! They are not known for the longest life span (as I can attest) but are accurate as hell while they work.

Nice find!

Actually, I've been using the BEL 880 in my NSX for the last 8 years or so. I like the detector and it hasn't let me down yet except for the windshield mount that I broke.

It was entirely my fault as I overtightened the screw holding the swiveling arm and cracked the plastic into 3 pieces.

Alas. The newer detectors now use a one piece metal mount that I can't break.

I've been using a BEL 795 in my daily driver for the past 5 years as well.

Thank you for sharing!
I saw that on slickdeals, but only after you posted this thread.
I was able to pick one up, luckily here in the bay area.
I currently have an 8500 x50, and have to vouch for how well it works. I needed a second one for my wife's car, so this is perfect.

Thanks again!

so you're the hooligan that blew by me at 180mph lolz

Hi PoohBear!
I hope you have been doing well.

It's been a crazy time for me lately, as my wife is 7 months pregnant.
We should meet up sometime. There is a NSX meet in San Mateo tomorrow that I was hoping to attend... it seems likely that I will no longer be able to make it, but let me know when you're in the South Bay next time.

PM me so that we don't derail this thread.

Best,
J.

Man, missed out on the deal. Just went to the local shack and they only have Cobra..boooo!.
Look like they are out if stock online too.

If you type in the product number, 220-0114, on RadioShack.com it will show you any local stores around your zipcode that still have them in stock.

As of yesterday there were 4 Shacks that still had some in my area.

This BEL 995 detector clearance is in-store only.

i did search for the local store. I called them to check and they told me they don't have the exact same one but something else which cost over $200 and they won't sell it at the sale price, meaning no price match..

the guy said it must be a corporate sale and only available at corporate store. I don't know what that mean.

so, i'm outta luck.

if u can find one extra and willing to buy it for me, i'll paypal ya for your trouble. :O)

I'm going to go to my local spots tomorrow and I'll pick up 2 or maybe more.

It's 22-114 there are no zeros. Otherwise your search will come up empty each time.

Funny you should say that. I intially went into the store asking for 22-114 but they could not pull it up. Their in-store system only responds to 220-0114 as their store item format is apparently seven digits.

BTW, I can still get the item to come up when I put in 220-0114 in the search window on the main page at RadioShack.com.

For those of you that can't get one in your area shoot me a PM. I'll pick an extra one up for you and ship it out.

You'll pay

Item price
Shipping
A box if I can't find one at work.

Do this today since I'll be going in an hour or so.

PM Sent..thats very generous of you to offer. I was trying to find one in So Cal but no dice.

You have to be creative to still get one. I kept trying different zip codes till I found a store that had them and then arranged to have it shipped to my local store. Also most of the stores that show they still have some really don't. You have to call the store to confirm they still have it.

I got the last one within a 50 mile radius. Got lucky. Thanks for the post Motegi!

Anyone get the laser accessory to this? Is it worth it?

tuff find. . .

There was one at "78759" (Highland Mall) until this afternoon (as-per the store-finder). It was the only location since Wed' that showed inventory. I just never managed to make time to head there.

sduffass, I'm down for one ($65.97+ sale-tax +postage) if you end up w/ an extra. Sincerely appreciate that! I'll owe ya cold'one when you're in the area...

(or anyone else who has an "extra"...)
