Probably stating the obvious but why not simply purchase one from a breakers yard?

It's not that easy,

There extremely few Targa tops for sale. let alone one suitable for R&D.
We are going to need pictures now because we want to give people a estimated price and specifications and see what is going to need to be modified or adapted. To a sure the best quality possible.

After that we will start making molds (from a traga top) , etc and start production.

For now the plan is the make the T-tops on a exchange basis.

I have a complete silverstone targa top assembly available. If you want to make a glass version, then IMHO, the only way would be to buy one and mold/fabricate it off of it.

of course we are going to use a targa top to make the mold and copy the mounting points. (aluminum panel will be replaced)

But we will still need pictures to determine rough prices and difficulty's of fabrication.

Price will be have the largest effect on orders so we need to get a as accurate insight in how much we can make.

Particular parts of interest are the roof panel inside view and the rubber molding and weather striping so we can make the acrylic panel fit correctly.

Targa's are indeed rare here.
I think only about 8 in the country, 2 of which, both '98 are mine.

You are welcome to come by and take pics of my '98 targa's panel if interested.
However, will not take anything apart :wink:
Exploded views of the panel and all parts are easily found in the shop manuals, which I also have.

Not interested in a glass panel myself, but hey, anything to serve the prime community

Additional note: you could also buy my silver '98 NSX Targa off me as that one is for sale, and use that as a R&D vehicle :wink:

I have a question... if this top becomes a glass, what happens in an accident?

..Whether it acts like the windshield and has a film, or is tempered and cracks in a milion pieces, I don't want glass in my head wounds as it's bleeding...

It won't be glass since that would cost and weigh more and a range of other complications.

They will be made out of premium acrylic just like the Targa top's on Corvette's.

I don't even have the NSX yet (see Maket WTB) but if itwere a Targa I am a buyer depending on quality and price (in that order). My Vette is set up that way with two tops. I love it. I'm just allowing you a better sense of your market. I'm sure there other NSX owners that would come on board if quality were as good as Corvette (or Mazda Miata like my daughter had). There would good be a good secondary market too -- being color neutral they'd fit all Targa NSXs.:smile:

Yes we would happily make these but... the specialist we worked with to get these made went out of business due to the economy.
We where in the process of making the prototypes.

I'll have a look see if we can get this project going again.

I could be interested in a glass option, i think if it was plastic the heat would destort the transparancy and look misty and dirty.

But i would much prefer a carbon version.

Weight is also a big factor, has to weigh sweet FA as the oem roof is heavy.


How about making light weight targa storage? As the factory unit is even heavier than the roof, rediculous the amount of weight in it. Would be nice to see it in carbon also. I was thinking about improving on the factory design, could it be higher or offer more clearance in the engine bay so you could use ITB's with a collection box or perhaps SuperCharger with the Laminova SOS sells.

Also when looking into the rear view mirror, the targa storage sits high, i think this is the design, restricts the limited view we already have. Not really a bigger as i would rather a light weight option which offer more room and clearance in the engine bay.

Anyway... Back to the Actual targa, another option would be great but i would prefer a carbon option over anything else purely for weight saving perhaps for the carbon look anyone not wanting that could spray it.
