Headers & exhaust

Can anybody tell me if i was to put headers on my NSX and take off cats would my car run clean enough to pass Calif. smog.I don't care about visual inspection

The cats are what allows the car to the pass emissions tests. You will definately fail without the cats on. However, running headers and exhaust with good condition cats will allow you to pass emissions assuming the car is running in good condition.

I don't know if this is true.I owned a 930 turbo and took cats off.We put in on a co machine and it ran clean enough to pass.

Isn't it just as illegal to remove cats, regardless of whether it passes emissions or not?
Therfor if willing to be illegal, why not test with cats, then remove?
