Often Q is refered to as a transistor, but could be anything. Depending on how tight the conventions of the manufacturer of the specific items are.
Most of the time its a transistor or fet.
AFAIK the writting on the part tells you nothing. You really need schematics or a partslist.
I have seen SMD transistors with a little bit of a clue on it what it can be, but most of them just say something useless.
Another option is having a look what it can be, and then reverse engineer into the right part.
Also have a look WHY the part went, coz its no use to start replacing stuff if the fault has not been solved.
