Why is everyone so worried about the car vin, carfax, and this guys friend??? Who cares what this friend plans to do with the car...
My advice would be to have an extra person push the release button while pushing down on the center of the trunk where the latch is. If that doesn't work hold the release button and try to pry it. Chances are the latch is bent to a weird angle and its going to need some force to get it out.
