Anybody have info on the NSX/S2K event mentioned months ago that was going to be held at LS this coming weekend?

Many Thanks

Yep, a few of us from Sacramento are going (at least 4 that I know of) and I read on a separate forum a few from the Bay area will be there too. I expecting at least 6-8 NSXs.

NCRC is really trying to reach out to the NSX community since many of us track/instrcut with them as well. And we plan to do some collaborative events in the future. They have many formats and programs.

I haven't signed up for the event but if I'm around, I'll be there with my NSX for moral support and try to bum some rides from you guys. :D

I've attended over a dozen track events here and know this track like the back of my head. Wish I could drive it backwards one time. :) I can offer some pointers/instruction for those who want it.

Here's a picture of me at the best part of Laguna.

I'll be there on Sunday. Any tips and instruction would be welcome, Vytas, since this will be my first time driving on Laguna.

I live in west San Jose, near Campbell. I'm not sure what the best route is, but I can get onto 17 really easily and then I have a choice of continuing on 17 or switching to 85 and then 101. I'll be caravaning with a friend of mine on Sunday morning who drives a Corvette Z06. You wanna join the caravan?

My email is [email protected]

Those who attended the track event had a blast. We had 10 NSX on the track and Vytas came for moral support and had a few rides as well. Had Andrie and Telly come with their NSX, that would have added 2 more for a total show of 13 ........

By the way Andrie, did you have slicks on, how many HPs do you have in that Civic and HP/weight ratio, you might consider tossing a NOS in there for the straights ...... LOL!

Kip came with his new beta Comptech SC (the larger blower) and he was ripping on the straights. Now that Ted has Konis and 5 point harness, he ditched us to play with the big boys with their souped up HP and personal mechanics, Dave with his black NSX was a first timer and he had a blast as well (he now will be praying for the Motul gods ..... ), Ron and his wife were running back to back so it was hard to schmooze with them but she was pretty fast (for a while I thought Al must have added NOS in order to catch up that quickly on street tires, it turned out that it was the other red NSX from the valley on slicks with X on the rear bumper ........ ), Brian was ripping the yellow group run sessions and wondering what iffs, and he should have been in the blue (but there were too many cars in the blue as instructors were running in that group as well), the yellow NSX pranced around with its beautiful 02 rear updates but stayed to himslef most of the day, I am sure we confused Chris with different "instructor" comments, his car was handling very nicely, but ........ the honors for the day go to Igor who entertained us with his firework display of shooting flames from his BBSC and quad tips ...... LOL!

Both NCRC and S2KCA put a great event, the camaraderie was great, the food was great (buffet style not your regular boxed lunches), and the 3 hour plus ride to and back from Laguna Seca was priceless ..... both times we had to stop and exchange/swap club radio batteries ................ by the time we made it to Galt around 8:30 PM, we were chased by an Isuzu SUV who we though was one of those maniacs that wanted to prove something to our 4 car caravan going at normal speed ....... it turns out he was desperate to talk to us as he was a new NSX owner (green/tan with Comptech goodies)! Yeah, the guy pulled his Titanium key to show Brian that he was for real, they exchanged phone numbers and talked over the phone to take the next exit out ..... all this on I-99 driving in parallell while we were wondering what happened to Brian to slow down traffic ......... the guy was dying to talk to NSX owners, we got a new and enthusiastic recruit to the NSXCA ....... :)

NCRC is having another track event next Monday at Thunderhill. You can check their schedule at:

All in all, it was a great weekend.

All in all, it was a great weekend.

Definitely hats off to NCRC and the S2KCA. It was an excellent event. Very safe, very professional, and very organized. And also a ton of fun!

Andrie's Civic was super-fast, passing some Porsches when I was riding with him. I'm curious to hear the specs on that beast as well.

I did get different tips from different instructors, but that's to be expected. I always get that. No two instructors are exactly alike in their philosophy or experience. I just try to take in as much as I can and test stuff out. By my 5th session, I was much improved. I was starting my turn-ins a lot sooner (thanks, Andrie!) and the car was still able to stick. I even started to shift into 2nd gear at parts of the track (thanks, Hrant!) by my 5th session. I still have to work on my heel-and-toeing, since the pedals are too far apart.

Next time I will continue to work on getting the proper line through turn 6 and also the corkscrew, which is still kinda unfamiliar to me. I'm not sure what the proper line is through the corkscrew. I hear people suggesting be on the far right before starting the left turn of the corkscrew. Is that good? Also, I'm not sure how close I should be to the right burm in the second turn of the corkscrew and I don't know how much to track out after that second turn.

Turn 9 also scares me because it's off-camber and I don't know how fast I can go through it. I also have trouble getting all the way back to the left side after I track out from turn 9.

Well, it's good to have things to work on for next time at least. :)

Hey Chris, your line and speed to turn 9 was fine, just add a tad more to to your steering lock at the track out and it brings you back closer to lining up for turn 10. And in fact, I learned something from you re how you were taking 10, ......... gave me another 5 mph but I am sure there is another 5 mpoh there in the envelope ......... LOL!

As for the corckscrew, once you get it, it becomes easy because it is primarily all one harmonic motion based on a visual target - the oak tree ...... thus the logo for the T-shirt (had to make that plug .....). The entry to the corckscrewere really doesn't affect your lap times ....... its the gearing (you should be in 2nd if you can) and the apexing of turn 8a that will dicate how quickly you can get back on the throttle. Again think of a decisive turning at the turn in cone (or cone 1 for the brakes) targeting the apex, aim at the oak tree in "straight" line (ie bring the steering to center position for a quick visual check with the oak tree) and immediately but smoothly - all in one motion - turn to the right and you should be within 1- 2 feet of the apex. You were hesitating to make the right turn until you visually see the berm/apex for 8a which you can't do if you want to hit the mark ........... you have to convince yourself mentally to trust the motions and if you do it at slower speeds there will be less surprises and it will be a confidence builder. If you take a late apex at 8 and keep the steering lock even for 0.5 seconds longer you will find yourself almost in the middle of the track ....... done that and caught a potential spin ......... ;)

As you said, a pair of extra eyes are always good to give pointers, and that is why I always want a passenger, and there is no subsitute to seat time ............ will you be going to THill with NCRC as well?

Haha, now you've got me curious. What did you learn from me on turn 10? I've never heard of anyone learning from me, cuz I still consider myself a track newbie.

The corkscrew reminds me of the crest at THill. The main reason why I hesitate after the first half of the corkscrew is because I don't want to turn too soon and run over the burm on the right side, or even worse, go two wheels off on the right side. I have to get my timing down so that I pause just the right amount of time after centering on the oak tree. I don[t want to be too early nor too late.

I missed the early bird deadline for THill's registration because I was swamped that week. I'm trying to convince Troy to give me the early bird price because it just so happens that I'll be up in Williams, CA this weekend for a river rafting trip. I might as well hit two birds with one stone. If they will give me the early bird price, I'll definitely be there. I told them to see if they can fill all their slots. If not, and they are willing to give me one of their unfilled slots at the last minute for the early bird price, I'll take it.

The reason why I'm not totally in need of going to ThunderHill so soon is because the BMWCCA is going to have a two day school there in the beginning of August.

Actually, I would like to take my M3 to THill this year. I took my NSX to THill last year, once in April, once in September. It's about time I try my M3 there. :) So whether it's June or August, I'll be bringing my M3, not the NSX.

You can't drop a teaser like that without further comment! What's different, is it a larger blower and new intake casting? Is it aftercooled? Does it still fit under the stock engine cover? More details, please!!!

The civic has ITR engine and NSX brakes. Everything about the engine is stock. We are guessing that it should have about 165 HP to the wheel, if we're lucky. It is still heavy at 2300lbs. Hopefully we can cut down another 300 lbs soon.

Weight/HP ratio is still less than stock NSX. When I tried to pass Hrant coming out of turn 11, even he pointed me by, I could not pass him when he gunned it. Luckilly he realized that and let off.

I am running Toyo RA1 at full thread as this is practice. Of course it is still a faster tire than street tire that Hrant run.

From what I saw, it was a bigger blower, custom strut tower bar (Targa). Looks like it will still fit the coupe stock cover.

Better call Shad and ask him. Kip mentioned, that the car dynoed at 410 RWHP. And we all know Comptech products always have awesome quality.

Thanks Andrie. Yep, CT is pretty good stuff (except the valve springs! :p ) Excellent timing on CT's part, with the stock market creeping back up! ;) Anyone interested in a used CTSC?

For the corkscrew, I've been told to hold left until you are pointing at the big tree, then turn right to take the plunge. Andrie may have other advice... but it really depends on the car probably. That was what Rylan was doing in his stripped out S2K.

Hey there. Thanks Hrant for all your'e time, energy and knoledge .What an awesome day I pulled my wheels on monday morning and my rotors were not a pretty sight .I still had fade and low pedal on the way back to Santa Cruz.Probably do the fluid and cooling thing.I can't make the TH event but when is the next time I can fry my brakes!!!!!!.Thanks guy's and thank's NCRC

I got to make it clear, that the Valve springs that broke in Tom's car was not Comptech's!

JG Engine dynamics uses thir valve springs on the main springs and stock springs on secondary springs.

We had the head rebuild by comptech using THEIR valve springs. I have full confident in them, and trust them completely. I have been dissapointed by other manufacturer before. Comptech products has been very satisfactory to me. Strong word, I know. But I would never endorse other products, unless I'm completely satisfied by them.

I have no affiliation or vested interest in Comptech, other than hoping they keep coming up with great products for Honda.

What happens if they cut that tree off? hehe, I never use the tree and any landmark as refrence at the track. You just gotta learn to have the "6th" sense on where to point the car, I guess.
