Lombard Street Photoshoot

Hey Everyone,

Bringing fresh baked goods..
Ham & Cheddar Croissants
Chocolate Croissants
Butter Croissants

...in case you need a bite.

Richard... Thanks for doing this. I am sure everyone attending will appreciate it.

Sounds like a terrific event. I'd like to stop by and check it out... Driving my Yellow 1988 CRX Si.

Hey Frank, I remembered you. I met you at Santana Row like a year ago. Your Yellow CRX is real clean. Looking forward to see you there.

Judging by the last few days, it's gonna be wet (fog) in the morning. Better put those wipers back on!!!

I've been trying to get a hold of the guy at the Beach Chalet restaurant since Wednesday but I haven't been successful. So it looks like we're going to eat there without reservations. This may (but not necessarily) mean that we don't sit at adjacent tables. But I think they'll be able to get us close enough.

On the bright side, we'll all be able to order whatever we want instead of one of the three items they were willing to offer us (though one of the options was eggs benedict, which many wanted anyways).

Bottom line, we won't have anything "special" happening at the restaurant as far as seating. Remember, bring cash, though. If they happen to seat us all together, we shouldn't all ask for separate checks.

Just got settled into our hotel room. 7 hour drive with crazy traffic of course from Ventura. Gonna try and get some sleep now. See everyone tomorrow. Thanks for setting this up

Richard, I want to thank you for being so generous and bring pastries for everyone that showed up. Looks like you had a few too many leftovers.

Yes, a big thanks to James, Lynn, and anyone else who helped make this happen.

Thank you James and Lynn for all of your efforts and great work. What a great day. I've always thought we drive a very special car, but we also have a very special group of drivers.

It was so nice to see some old friends and meet some new people. It was great to meet Bill today. He's telephoned me a number of times and we've had some great conversations, but we only met in person this morning. What a kick. (OK Bill, we've met. You don't need to call any more.) Just kidding.

Thanks again folks. Good to see all of you. And thanks for sharing your photos.

Doug

James and Lynn, much thanks for a GREAT event. I know it was a lot of hard work, preparation, and behind the scenes work, and we all very much appreciate it! Thanks again!

It was also nice to see some new faces as well!

Very nice event and I see from the other thread we already have some nice pics. My wife and I had a great time meeting everyone and taking pics on Lombard. The brunch was nice too.

Thanks to James Lynn and everyone else involved in setting this up. I have some nice pics I can post up later tonight.

James and Lynn... Thanks very much for putting this event together. I know first hand how much effort it took to pull this together. The brunch at the Beach Chalet was pretty good, we had at least 20 in attendance.

Shout out to Moses and his significant other; Thanh and his significant other and Dan and his son, they drove quite aways to attend our event.

Thanks to those of you who posted pics so far and I look forward to seeing more.

See you at the next event.

Mike

Rick, we all heard about your incident and I hope you and your girlfriend (sorry I don't know her name) are okay. If you need anything let me know. I could lend you a set of wheels (Work Meisters 18-19's) if you need them until the LM's are repaired or replaced.

Another heartfelt thanks to James and Lynn for a delightfully well organized and run event! This was my first live gathering with NSX owners and I had a wonderful time meeting everyone.

Had a great timing meeting everyone.

And again thanks for setting this up.

Thanks Mike - no worries actually she was not in the car (sarah) since I accidently left her at Lombard street on our first run. We both had a lot of fun up to that point.....oh well things happen.

No real damage except I'll need another wheel - thanks for offer but I have my OEM's and car won't be driven till the 19" LM's arrive :)

Big thanks to James / Lynn for all the hard work - I have some pictures from my camera I'll post later!

Rick,

Glad to hear that there was no real damage and that you are okay. No problem, but you should consider coming out to meets or events even if you are on OEM's.

Mike

I feel we pulled off this event because:

a) James placed signs on all the Lombard Street residences with Mike C. in advance to warn them not to come out of their driveways during the shoot.
b) James went to City Hall to apply and prepay for the permits on his own time.
c) James arranged and placed deposit for SFPD (that didn't really cooperate when all was said and done).
d) James took matters into his own hands when the shit hit the fan.
e) I (barely) woke up at 4:30am to build the jib and have camera ready so we can beat the tourists (we STILL drew a crowd by the time we were finished)!
f) James was a great buffer between the local law enforcement and NSX club do to "communication" issues.
g) even though Rick had to bring home a boo-boo on his car, no one was hurt.
h) the extra cameramen-Mike & his 2 friends (who also joined us at Beach Chalet and sat in the corner), Steve (who sells HiD's) and a friendly looking guy in Porsche Targa with camera mount on windshield took some photos/videos for us. Not to mention all the GFs, BFs, BFFs, and spouses.
i) you know this is a "good" event if people are willing to drive more that a few hundred miles.
j) we had Jimmy the "Jimmy Jib" operator give us a ripping deal for all the equipment and his time.

I felt that people really enjoyed themselves (I can tell by the pics that were posted so far by our members and friends)! I cannot tell you what a relief it was to have it all come together in the end.

All the above with the exception of "g" was totally worth it! The efforts of anyone else like volunteering bringing pastries at the butt crack of dawn didn't go unnoticed. I will keep posting as I find out what other people did out of the kindness of their hearts...

This club is the GREATEST!!!

It was a crazy last few weeks for me and Saturday made it all worth it. But at certain points in the day I was not a very happy camper and this message is to apologize for that and explain where my head was at. But first, some background info:

We all paid the SFPD a very handsome fee for certain services. For those of you who know how to do algebra, we paid for 3 officers at a $92/hr rate for what the PD has as a minimum of 4hrs. This was a substantial portion of where our money went. What I wrote to them explicitly, and what Lynn told them, specifically, was that we were to have

• a police escort from Fort Mason to Lombard (and we specified the route)
• traffic and crowd control while shooting at Lombard
• escort to Beach Chalet (since they forced us to have the PD for a 4hr minimum, and we didn’t think we’d only have them for 3 or 3.5 hours up until the end of the shoot, we figured we would use up all our time we paid for)

Somewhere between the day we made our agreement with our contact at the SFPD and the day of the shoot, our requirements fell through the cracks. When the officers arrived at Fort Mason, the guy that seemed to be in charge between the three of them asked what exactly we were doing. I told him what our plan was and as I was talking about how we would rotate the front cars he stopped me and said “you don’t have permission for a street closure… how do you expect to keep tourists out of your shot?” I explained how I had told both the SF Film Commission and the SFPD about what we would do and neither let me know that we needed to apply for s separate street closure permit.

He continued, “what the smart cars did was… blah blah blah… and they were in and out in no time.” I explained that I know what they did, that we had a member present who helped organize that smart car shoot and how we were doing our differently. His total demeanor gave me the impression that he wanted to get us there, take one shot, and leave. I told him that was unacceptable. I actually said the words, “then what are we paying you for? He said, “you’re paying for the safety of your club members and the safety of the general public”

There’s more to the story with that jerk, but the bottom line is that he kinda set the theme for my day, and his and my interactions. (Thankfully, Lynn is a sweet-talker and finally got him to let us do what we wanted, if only 4 cars at a time instead of the 2 that we wanted to do. Thanks to Doug Trigg and Chip Alexander as well, for saying a few things to explain to the officer what would have certainly come out of my mouth very, very badly.)

The plan was then to have SFPD escort us to the restaurant. The officer in charge said that before they leave they had to supervise the tear-down of the jib that our main photographer set up and that we should wait for everyone at Fort Mason. He said that before I leave, I had to sign their paperwork… admin stuff. I signed and he said they had to stay back and make sure we left everything as we found it.

Then Lynn calls and asked where the PD went. I told her, so she called the lead officer. He had is team leave the premises immediately since my signed paperwork “realeased them”. So, we paid for 4hrs of 3 officers time, and we got about 2hrs of “work” and the work we got wasn’t even what was agreed upon. I’m following up with my contact at SFPD once I see the pro shots. If there’s even one car that did not get in the front, I’m going to see about filing a complaint and getting a partial refund. I got bullied by the cops but I’m willing to overlook that if we got the shots we wanted. If we didn’t, then I’ll feel compelled to pursue some sort of correction on their part.

So, that’s the story. After I ate at the Beach Chalet I really started to feel a lot better about things. (I get cranky/punchy when my blood sugar is low.) It especially helped my mood when so many of you said what a great event it was.

I’m glad you all had a good time, despite my mood. I want to apologize to the few of you who saw in my face how I was feeling and took the time to ask if I was okay. I wasn’t feeling very accepting of your concern for me and I feel I may have taken it out on you. It’s not my nature to be like that and that cop really brought out the worst in me.

Thanks, everyone for reading this post, but more importantly, for putting up with the glitches that should have never happened.

On a positive note, preliminary discussions with the photographers sound very positive. They said that they got some really good shots and we should be happy with the results. And man, wasn’t that camera at the end of the jib with the remote monitor at ground level pretty cool?

I want to thank Lynn, Mike and Yolanda/Jack for their help in getting this put together. Without their help I could never have gotten it all done. Thanks, and I owe you each a nice dinner for your time and efforts.

J
