I just find it unusual to have the Skyline in the high-end sportscar niche'... but, of-course performance/numbers alone would place it amongst the elite w/o a doubt. However in the company of 911's, F-cars, NSX'es, ESPRIT's, Viper's, Z06's, and even Supra's / RX7's / 300ZX's / 3000GT's it seems amiss. In fact quite similar to how SRT4's, WRX STi's, and EVO's can belong in the exotic coterie just based off dyno', specs', and performance numbers.
To myself, atleast, a Skyline seems more in-class w/ BMW M3's / M5's, Benz CLK/CL/S-class coupe AMG's, Aston Martin's, Jaguar XK-R's, Audi RS4's / RS6's, EVO's, WRX STi's, etc'. [I'm being very subjective!]
I've had the opportunity to drive R32's, R33's, and R34's (GT's & GT-R's)... some of them tuned quite aggressively. AWD makes monster'launches piece-of-cake. Those w/ single-turbo's mimick NASA-simulators. Ridiculously fast at times, I must confess. However, hardly an experience I'd reiterate as being iconic or truly remarkable. NA-powered Lotus Elise gives more of a sportscar experience, thrill, and memorable outing IMHO. For me, that's what alot of road/track motorsports is all about: the experience you as a driver get each time you are behind the wheel, whether in the countryside w/ twisties or on a stretch of autobahn'esque Interstate.
Probably the greatest sportscar to ever be built would've been a fusion of Honda's philosophy & execution w/ the NSX combined w/ Nissan's simplistic & robust platform for the Skyline.
