Shell Racing Solutions takes pole position
24/06/2003
Racing syndicates increasingly choose Shell as our reputation for powering the winning teams at motorsport’s most prestigious events continues to strengthen.
A partnership with Shell has provided a winning combination for teams such as Ducati, Ferrari Formula 1 and NASCAR’s Robert Yates Racing who benefit from Shell Racing Solutions’ bespoke fuels, lubricants and technical expertise. Recently during one weekend five teams supported by Shell were first past the post: Michael Schumacher - Ferrari, Formula 1; Loris Capirossi - Ducati, Moto GP; Neil Hodgson - Ducati Fila, World Superbike; Warwick Noland and Stephane Mertens - Zongshen Team, World Endurance Motorcycle Championship; First Team Bentley, Le Mans 24 Hours.
Shell provides tailored products and advice across the spectrum of motorsport from the glamorous worlds of open wheel and bike racing to the rugged sports of rallying and stock cars around the globe.
Each fuel and lubricant is individually-developed by Shell scientists who draw on the Royal Dutch/Shell Group’s 90 years of technical expertise in motorsport. Shell’s racing specialists in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States provide a range of technical solutions including analytical tests at the track to ensure both the vehicle and its fluids are racing at optimum levels.
Claudio Domenicali, managing director of Ducati Corse, said Shell played a key role in Ducati’s Loris Capirossi breaking the record for the highest top speed ever recorded in motorcycle racing. Capirossi reached a speed of 203mph at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona recently. “Part of the incredible result achieved in Catalunya is very much linked with Shell’s research and development capability,” Mr Domenicali explained.
Shell’s close relationship with motorsport plays an important role in developing new fuels and lubricants for everyday motorists. Our premium petrol V-Power, which provides extra power and a quicker response, was developed with expertise gained in Shell’s ongoing seven-year relationship with Ferrari Formula 1.
Caroline Missen, marketing manager for Shell Racing Solutions, said that motorsport’s culture of innovation provided a hothouse for the development of innovative fuels and lubricants. “Motorsport pushes things right to the edge and is a fantastic testing ground for consumer products. A lot of the research and development of fuels and lubricants comes from our partnership with motorsport.”
Motorsport also forges closer relationships between Shell and automotive manufacturers such as Skoda in the World Rally Championship and Audi in Le Mans. These relationships often result in collaboration to produce cleaner and more efficient engines, fuels and lubricants.
Shell Racing Solutions supports: Formula 1 (Ferrari), Indy Racing League (Panther Racing), NASCAR (Robert Yates Racing, Dale Earnhardt Inc, Hendrick Motorsports), World Rally Championship (Skoda), National Hot Rod Association (Cruz Pedregon, Worsham Racing), Paris-Dakar (VW), Le Mans (Audi UK, Bentley, Team Goh) American Le Mans Series (Audi Sport), MotoGP (Ducati), World Super Bike (Ducati, GSE), FIM World Endurance Motorcycle Championship (Zongshen), World Supersports Motorcycle Championship (Yamaha Germany).
