Hi all...

I have recently read three or four post discussing insurance rates for an nsx.

I own a 91 nsx. I purchased it in 2000 when I was 23. I have had state farm since I was 16. I have a good grade discount from college and grad school. I am paying $800.00 a year to insure my nsx with them. My 93 Legend was $600.00 a year.

I read that some people are paying 2k to insure used as in 91 NSXes?

Anyone care to list what they are paying?

I am thinking that state farm must have though i said I payed 3.5 k instead of 35k for it? That or they do not know what an NSX is???

This subject has been beaten to death, to be honest. You can trust that you're not just getting lucky somehow with State Farm. Insurance companies don't make enormous errors in your favor with premiums. You can be sure that what you're paying is normal for your area and demographic. Also, they don't "know" what any car is. VIN numbers are fed into systems that spit out premiums after quantitative analysis of all relavent data using formulas supplied by actuaries. Manufacturer info, model info and corresponding crash, theft, repair cost and safety statistics are fed into the system from external sources.

There is such a staggering difference between rates based on area, demographic and individual, it really isnt valuable to compare.

Try doing a search on this topic. You'll see lots of information on what people pay. FWIW, I pay $680 per year for full coverage on my 91 NSX.

I got a rate of around 700/yr full coverage. Sounds like you also rcvd a nice rate. I expected to pay more.

You lucky guys! In Germany you have to pay over 8,000 Euros (about 9,500 US$) for a full insurance per year if you're at 100 % (you can decrease this to 30% after 15 years of no damage) - no matter what age your car is. Plus tax, plus about 1.15 Euro per litre (not gallon!) of gas. And all that during some kind of recession here with decreasing incomes - this X-perience becomes more and more unpayable.

The insurance costs is one of the reasons my car isn't street legal any more - I prefer to put the bucks in the mods.

Ick gawd! That is awful! Man, I feel for you and can certainly understand your decision to make your NSX not street legal. Makes you wonder if the Smart Car is expensive as well.

WOW. that's cheap. i should contact state farm.. im paying $175 / month on 91NSX, 00civic, and renters insurance.. but if i can lower that some more i'll be more than happy...

i pay only $20.00 a Month for full coverage on my NSX... my daily driven car is a Lexus Ls 400 i pay $490.00 for full coverage. the Lexus cover my NSX.. that why i pay it so cheap.. talk to your Insurance Agent. u might get the same rate as i do.. i only drive the NSX on the weekend only...

nuthing... I didnt pissed them off.. they piss me off.
my friend pays 3450 per yr for his 98 3000gt

Insurance

I use Grundy Collector car Insurance on my '01.

They have an agreed value rate basis
where you tell them how much value
to insure your car for and they compute
the rates from there.I pay $700/ yr full coverage. I'm limited to about 3K miles
per year with the exception of traveling
to and from events not counting into
those miles... you can go to as many
of those within reason. I live in a major
city so rates in smaller towns may be less.

Your rate will decrease quite a bit if you don't have any tickets or at-fault accidents (this is important) during the past three years, like mine.

Try Costco for insurance

I use American Express for insurance. You can get insurance from them through Costco. If you are a Costco member, go to the Costco website and get a quote online. I have really high coverage amounts on each car and get pretty good rates. My NSX is not a daily driver and I pay $518/yr. My Lexus GS is my daily and I pay $950/yr for that. Deductibles are only $250 (I'm sure I could get lower rate with higher deductible). I have two other cars and the rates are pretty low for those too. Check out the Costco quote. Its a pretty good deal. You might also find some good used car refi rates (like I did) through them too (use the savings for nice mods).

i had just asked my insurance company for a quote, because i'm looking into purchasing a 91 nsx. the agent told me, it would cost 1700 for 6 months, making that 3400 a year, and i have to get 1000 deductible. He also warned me that other insurance companies in the area don't even sell insurance for the nsx anymore, due to high cost repairs etc etc. beats me... anyone have that problem if you live in the philadelphia/south jersey area??

btw i'm young, 20... clean license tho =)

Jersey is the worst area in the United States to insure a car. I live in the second highest area which is S. Florida. WPB and down the rates are riduclous. I'd shop around a bit but it's still going to be really effing high.

Finally, to quote Mr. nsxtasy:

"Rates are going to vary depending on company, state, town, age, driving record, coverages and limits, etc.

There's a very easy way to find out how much it will cost for you to insure an NSX. Just call your insurance company and ask. They can tell you, even without you having to buy the car. Or you can check an online service such as http://www.insweb.com"

Well said Mr. Nazi,

Throwing dollar figures with no other qualifying info is really meaningless. I pay pretty lowrates, because of my age, locality, and I get just about every damn discount my company offers.
non-smoker, alarm system, airbags, good driver, multi-car, low annual miles, and they cover my homeowners as well. So by using the same company for both my homeowners policy and my car policies, I get a 10% discount on my cars which in effect, just about covers the cost of my homeowners policy.
I use high deductibles to get my rates down, but I do opt for maximum liability limits (which really doesn't cost very much for what you get).

Payed? Did you learn it from college or grad school? :p (just kidding)

Sorry, I've a bad day @ work.

Everybody keeps saying "do a search, do a search."
But whenever this topic comes up, it gets over 20+ posts and over 400+ views. Obviously people don't mind talking about it over and over again. So just let us talk about it.

Anyway, you guys need to say which company you went with to benefit others in here. I'm with Triple A right now and based on what others are saying, I think I better keep shopping around! $1475/yr. (for both NSX and 300ZX) and I thought that was a good deal!

The problem is that people open new topics because they're TOO LAZY to do a search to find topics that are already there. It takes less than about 30 seconds to search on all topics with "Insurance" in the title.

It's ridiculous to have 13 different topics that all say the same thing.

Fine. Talk about it by posting to one of the topics that already exists, instead of opening a new one.

Maybe Mr. Lud can take the 13 topics (this one plus the twelve links above) and consolidate them all into one big topic...

NSX at top of list ??

was reading a short column in today's Journal about some "online sites". On Edmunds.com (click on "True Ownership Costs"), you can type in a make and model (going back to the year 2000) and find out the average insurance premium in your state. The cheapest models? The Chrysler PT Cruiser and the VW Jetta. The priciest? The Mercedes CL class and the Acura NSX.

For slightly older cars, HwySafety.org (click on "Vehicle Rating") can provide some insight...

Interesting to see that the NSX is up there...
