Nsx Replacement Designers Are Stuck

My 0.02:

Beware of hard lines, they will date the car in a couple of years. Car design seem to be like paint colors: They just alternate what is in style every 15-20 years(boxy vs curvy). We are in the middle of the boxy style.

I think that thing is sick! If Honda were to develop it, Ferrari would have a hard time competing with this:

NO, I did not design this. Somebody with extraordinary design skills and vision did this design. I found this photo on MAJOR STONER posts. Honda should look at this design very seriously! The Italians and the Saleen S7 would hide from this car. This NSX would be the safest car on the streets because all traffic would come to a Stand-Still just to watch it go buy...! We need to find out who did this???

Honda need a leadership change. Or at least someone on the top who can commit and lead. You make the super car by setting the performance goal and doing whatever you can to achieve it. (Example: GTR) But it seems like Honda is setting the "specs" of the car and setting the goal's later. (V10, FR, GT car) The latter method is fine for Civic, SUV's etc. But it is not the best way to build a Super Car. Just my opinion.

I don't think its Honda - its the Acura Design Center in LA thats pumping out all this garbage...they cant seem to come up with an elegant design to save their lives.

I really wish they would have stayed in Japan and kept the whole japanese look... the ASCC really looked more like a corvette and a predator had a child.
 
The funny thing to me is is that on other automotive forums, the NSX seems to be getting more praise now then when it was available. In the latest Best Motoring video, the NSX-R held its own pretty well against the 911 turbo and even the GT3. Honda needs to get back to their roots, wringing the most of all the technology they have available. I mean, let's use the TSX for example, the new one is coming with a whopping 201hp. Lets see, 8 years ago they were making 240hp from a 2 liter, and today they make 201hp from a 2.4 liter. What happened?

They sould go back to their roots with the next NSX. Take the HSC, spruce it up since we've seen it for a while (and make the back tailights reflect the current NSX), keep it the same weight as the current (or lose a few pounds), keep the engine in the middle, the handling improvements should be easy since the current car handles so well, and throw in a twin turbo V6 with 3.5-3.7 liters of displacement and wring the crap out of it like it's your car towel soaked with water and your car is still wet. Look what Nissan did with a twin turbo V6. Do a factory version of a Faxtor X job on the car and you'd have an animal that would truly reflect what the original NSX meant in a car that can compete with or exceeds the current exotics.

+1000. I have given up on Honda/Acura. I can't think of a single vehicle they sell that I am remotely interested in. Porsche makes great quality vehicles. Ferrari's quality control has come a long way. Lambo is basically an Audi. All those choices are going to be superior to anything coming from Acura.

Keep your NSX boys - it will be worth major $$ at Barrett Jackson in 2040.

Will someone come forward and let those in charge know that things are completely out of control?

How do they all keep a straight face? I think I would just bust out laughing every time an image of the "new" phallus car was shown. Actually, that's a better name for it. Scrap NSX, introducing the new Acura Phallus!
Like a bad inside joke. I am sure the majority on the "Team" has their resume's up to date as we speak.

i can see enzo, hsc, gallardo, new nissan gt-r in that pic. Not a bad thing. Change the front messy bit into a smoother hsc/gallardo front grill, put a type r 02 bonnet vent, fix the mirrors or remove and you'll have something i'll still never be able to afford.:biggrin:

You guys need to realise that a lot more goes into the design of the car than just what's obvious. For example, the door windows need to retract into the door when open. If you look at the HSC, it has been designed so that it can at the expense of appearance. Something does need to be done about that rear window/pillar area though.

I HOPE Honda pursue the HSC concept. Forget AWD and keep it light. Make it a more pure sports car than what the other manufacturers are doing. Light weight, good aerodynamics and low frictional losses should make it quite efficient, even with a V10. Certainly more so than the R35 or LFA.

I assume one of the problems with the MR V10 setup is packaging. I wonder if they could incorporate a diff in (well, on)the sump like the RB26? It might raise the CG too much though....
 
I think you should rename this topic as "NSX Replacement Designers Suck" because after they dropped the HSC design nothing better has come along.

I'm thinking that the rear hatch and the angle of the side windows was not steep enough,
move the door handle, have a slightly longer front,
longer back (fit a v10 :biggrin:) with built-in spoiler
trailing off of the the top mounted intakes. Longer rear hatch,
new wheels, a front fender intake and a removable canopy roof. Ahhh.

This is just excellent. Makes the LF-A look slow in comparison.

Now, please Honda, work on this a little, extend the HSC for a little more engine-room.

Yeah and after they get that figured out maybe(don't hold my breath now) but just maybe work on a type R
 
Toyota is bringing back the MR2 in 2011

Lets hope they can make something like the 1992 model that looked so much better than 1999 model.

Not in the NSX class.... but at least another mid-engine car is back on the market, for guys that don't like the Porsche Cayman look or can't afford the R8.

Maybe the lost NSX designers might get some clues from the lowly little MR2 LOL

Toyota’s long-anticipated sports car will arrive in 2011. It will be jointly developed with Subaru and boast a boxer engine.

The compact, rear-wheel-drive "affordable" car will be built at a new Japanese plant to be set up by Fuji Heavy Industries, parent of the Subaru brand.

Each company will market the car separately and badge it as its own.

The model is part of a sweeping expansion of the tie-up between the Japanese companies.

At a news conference in Tokyo on Thursday, CEO Katsuaki Watanabe also said that Toyota Motor Corp. would boost its stake in Fuji Heavy Industries to 16.5 percent, from its current 8.7 percent.

Toyota will pay 31.1 billion yen ($311 million) for the increased holding, effectively snapping up the last of the shares sold back to Fuji Heavy Industries by General Motors in 2005.

Under the growing partnership, Toyota will supply Fuji Heavy Industries with a compact car. Fuji Heavy also will start receiving mini vehicles -- cars with engines no bigger than 660 cc -- from Toyota affiliate Daihatsu, starting in 2009.


Under the hood of the sports car will be Subaru's trademark horizontally opposed engine. The companies did not say how many cylinders the engine will have.

The car will sit on a new Subaru platform and be designed by Toyota, the companies said.

"I think there is high potential for this car," Watanabe said, adding that it will be sold in Japan and overseas. "We haven't had a sports car for a long time. This is a long-awaited-for model."

Pricing would be "not prohibitively high," he said.

Other details, such as engine displacement and production volume, are under wraps. But Fuji Heavy Industries President Ikuo Mori said he has driven the test vehicle and is pleased.

"I'm confident we have an excellent car," Mori said.


New Fuji plant
Fuji Heavy Industries will build a plant next to its Gunma Oizumi engine and transmission factory to manufacture the sports car. It will start operation in late 2011.

Work there may expand to include other Toyota-commissioned vehicles, Mori said. Fuji Heavy Industries is deciding how big to make the plant and how much money to invest.

The new car fills a gap left by the retirement of the MRS two-seater. Toyota’s mid-engined MR2 dates back to 1984.

Watanabe said the success of the joint manufacturing at Fuji Heavy Industries' Lafayette, Indiana, plant pushed him to go ahead with the sports car. That plant now makes Camrys for Toyota.
