Invicta Coalition Forces Chronograph. Each band link is machined stainless steel. No stamped metal on this baby. Weighs about 14 oz. with all the links in place. Still over 12 oz. with links removed to fit my wrist.

Seiko SLQ021, Limited Edition which comes with an actual gear used in a Honda F1 car. Very cool!
I ALMOST bought one. Had it in my hands at the store. Something about the dial configuration just didnt float my boat.... I should've bought it just for the gear though!!!
Costco also carries Panerai, Breitling, and Tag among other brands in my area. I always stop by their jewelry display when I'm shopping for steaks and toilet paper...
Invicta is a US based company out of FL that produces a wide range of watches from the low $100's to $10,000. They use a mix of swiss and japanese movements auto and quartz. The Invicta name originates back to a Swiss watch company from the mid 1800's.

One of their famous designs is their version of the Zlatoust Russian Diver style watch. I don't think that they invented it though. They just adapted it with modern straps/etc and one of their most famous customers is the "Governator" who apparently collects them:

Between the Omega Planet Ocean Seamaster and Rolex Submariner, which one would you pick and why?
Omega. Everyone has that rolex. Its boring.
How about in terms of functionality and retaining the value over time? Do Omega watches retain their value like the Rolex?
As an anniversary present earlier this year, my wife gave me an Omega Planet Ocean 2.0 "Big Size" 232.30:
Our local Jared's remains one of the few that is still an AD for Omega so it came with the warranty cards and chronometer cert.
It's now the third Planet Ocean in my collection:
This new Planet Ocean 232.30 differs from the prior version 2200.50 in multiple ways. First the 232.30 now has a ceramic bezel insert in a dark matte gray rather than the gloss black aluminum bezel in the older version. Also the silver "stripe" on the bezel insert is narrower on the newer version which in combinaton with the gray ceramic makes the dial itself appear larger visually. In my opinion it completely changes the look of the watch.
The bracelet has been upgraded with link screws and a new smaller divers clasp. The Helium valve and main crown are now matte finished with polished lettering and logo. "Seamaster" is now accented in raised red lettering on the dial as opposed to the white lettering on the 2200.50. The main hour and minute hands are thicker with larger arrows and the arabic numerals on the dial are now applied stainless steel in a slightly different font. Finally, the OMEGA lettering on the dial is also now an applied metal plate to match the omega symbol.
While the previous Planet Ocean 2200.50 had a solid caseback with the Seamaster Seahorse medallion, the 232.30 now has a sapphire display crystal to reveal the new 8500 39 jewel twin barrel movement. The previous 2500 series movement was an Omega co-axial modification to a base ETA 2892 ebauche while the new 8500 movement is an original completely in-house design.

Hey guys, I sold my Rolex Explorer I (39mm) about a year ago. It was by far the best watch I ever owned. Very comfortable and a very simple/sleek design. Main reason I sold it was because I missed not having a date function, and I also didn't like the fact it was a "Rolex." Just felt uncomfortable wearing it and would prefer something a tad more low key. In my search for a replacement, it's pretty much down to these two models. Note that the style I prefer is very similar to my explorer. Anyone have experience with IWC? Care to share your experience on the movement, quality, etc? Thanks!

If you prefer to go low-key I would say both of these are excellent choices.
People will probably relay the Omega to 007 (but actually the Rolex Submariner was the original watch).
IWC probably a lesser known watch but for enthusiasts they know it's got a rich history and it's a "thinking man's watch".

Do you consider the Datejust a "dress" or "sports" watch?
What I meant by sports is I don't mean wearing a Datejust in the football field but in terms of matching with the type of clothes you wear. It looks good when you're in a suit but how do you feel with jeans and shirts?

What I meant by sports is I don't mean wearing a Datejust in the football field but in terms of matching with the type of clothes you wear. It looks good when you're in a suit but how do you feel with jeans and shirts?
Rolexes are rather versatile but I feel that's because of their popularity. IMO I never found it all too appropriate to wear a Sub with a suit but some folks are able to pull it off. I wear my Datejust (to the left) with work clothes. It's my workhorse watch because it's light and it doesn't irritate my hand nor is it intimidating to colleagues and business partners though I interchange it with my vintage Omega Seamaster (leather strap) depending on the occassion. I like my Sub (on the right) to fill the "sports" role like you mention. Thanks to Dimer I also upped the fun level by putting a NATO strap on it. GNOMO had a 5pack special so I kind of went overboard lol. Now when you're talking formal wear (i.e. weddings, date night, etc) then that's a different conversation entirely

I feel your Datejust can also fill the "Sports" mode due to the dome bezel and the oyster bracelet (vs. fluted and jubilee). It looks nice when dressed casual.
I recently checked out the Datejust II - the impression I got is it looked quite "sporty" due to it's larger size and the oyster bracelet, expecially with the ones that got the roman or arabic dial.
You bring up an interesting point with the arabic and roman accented dials. The one thing I like about my Datejust is that it's a classic style. It's also the thing I hate about it. I'm in the market for an equivalent replacement but more modern. Have any suggestions?
Have had them for 10 years, and I think they were about $29. All they need is a battery change every 2-3 years:wink:
It won't be easy to replace a Datejust, but how about with a newer model
If you haven't I would suggest go check out the Datejust II. To me it looks really nice, can fill the dual mode (dressy and sporty) even better than the original Datejust. The roman dial with blue or grey face looks real nice too - definitely worth considering.
