The 5-speed has a standard clutch type diff that when driven hard on the track will slip too much. The oil heats up to 400+ and changes the clutch strength drastically from start to finish. Even when you adjust the tension beyond the point of sacrificing the handling, by the end of a race your clutches are slipping and your traction is poor.
The 6-speed diff is a true helical diff that can be adjusted low for better handling, the other benefit is that in addition to clutches the mech helically pushes harder against the clutches directly proportional to the load your giving it. This equals better handling and better traction off the corners.
