A few weeks ago asitzes1 got in touch with Red-NSX and I to see if we were interested in joining him at the Circuit of The Americas for Peter Cunningham and Real Time Racing's 2015 debut of the TLX GT in the Pirelli World Challenge which was this past weekend. We had a great time, the weather was cool (upper 50s) and sunny Friday and Saturday. But turned rainy for Sunday's race. Peter and crew were nice to have us in the paddock after Friday's practice to show us around. The team had a roller coaster weekend. However, when I left the track, I couldn't help but remember Peter telling us at Mid-Ohio during NSXPO, that he was trying to choose the next hot shot driver for the team's second car. It appears they did well with the selection of Ryan Eversley to drive the #43 TLX.
Saturday morning, Peter and Ryan qualified in the middle of the field of 40+ cars. But for race #1 , the advantages of all wheel drive (AWD) was evident when both Acuras passed several cars at the standing start (Ryan passed 11 positions and Peter 7 positions) and passed a few more in the next lap. But the promising start turned into a bummer as both cars were hit from behind on the crowded course and suffered suspension damage and had to retire after a few laps.
Sunday's 2nd race was in a downpour. Peter's car was too damaged to be repaired at the track so he couldn't race. Ryan, on the other hand, was qualified 25th in the 40+ field of cars and was ready to race thanks to the Real Time crew's hard work overnight. Again the Acura AWD had the advantage in the wet. Ryan nailed the start again and by the end of the 50 minute race Ryan had moved 20 positions to finish 5th. What an incredible drive. Again thanks to asitzes1 for organizing the weekend and to Peter Cunningham and Real Time Racing for their hospitality. Here is Real Time's link with the more detailed race report. http://realtimerl.com/news/latest-news/realtime-acura-opens-season-with-top-five-finish
