RIP Ronald Reagan

He was a great president and also the first president that I voted for. He took the USA from being an isolationist country back into interventionalism. He also brought the cold war to an end.

Revolution... =)

hmmm... a person of wit, charm, and passion. there are infinite words to reflect his ways, but prose doesn't do justice to them. an individual worthy of emulation. i am lucky to have a letter that he had written to me; it's always been my esteemed brief.

may peace be w/ him...
:)

A sad day indeed . . .

May he rest in peace.

Sad to hear. He was a good man. I just hope I live to 93.:)

R.R

R.R = $ 4 billion debt, Iron-Contra scandal, helping governments of El Salvador and Guatemala kill and terrorize its own citizens, invasion of Granada, terrorizing Nicaragua, helping "freedom fighters" like Bin Laden by training them, giving them weapons and support to fight infidels. Yea he is a real hero. He is going to the same place Nixon and a lot of lawyers generally go.

i appreciate the dissenting opinions.

i think there is some pretty good documentation for one thing President Reagan did that was world changing in the best of ways.

It is apparent that Ronald Reagan by full intent and with careful planning ended the cold war. He did so by spending Russia into oblivion. It is documented that he met with the Russians and even told them what he was going to do---spend on stockpiling conventional and nuclear weapons as well as advancing military technology. He predicted he would bankrupt them, and that they couldnt keep up.

He was right. Unless you completely disagree with this, I think youd have to have some appreciation and gratitude for the man.

Damn Democrats

I didn't live through Nixon's presidency but from what I read, he was not a bad president at all, just had apparent self-esteem problems when it came time to re-election :(

No it is not apprent, I do not think and there are many historians who would agree with me, that the people of the former Soviet Union as well as the people of Easter Europe brought the system down. By giving a B movie actor a credit for a struggle of millions of people in many countries over many years is not fair to say the least. Gorbachev was making the reforms not because he was afraid that the US would start 3rd WW and win - remember no one wins a nuclear war. He really wanted to repair communism/socialism. He could have left the things the old way. North Korea did, they did not intorduce any reforms and the communists are still in power. The Soviets could have gone the same route but they did not. Once again not because of R.R. but because they understood that the system needed reforming.
Now it is true that R.R. spent a huge amount of money on military and cut government spending on programs for the poor, the working class and the middle class, yet nobody is talking about it. All of the sudden he is a nice fella a hero. I feel sorry that he died he is a human being but we should not change the history and only remember the good things about the man, that would be re writing history- too much like what the Soviets used to do.

Facts please, my bowel movements have nothing to do with the truth, and the truth hurts.

Well maybe you should introduce yourself to the following events:

1. Christams bombing of North Vietnam
2. Invasion of Cambodia (secret)
3. Watergate
4. His anti semitic, racisit, remarks
5. Almost being impeached

That should keep you busy for a while, if after reading up on above topics you still think he was a good and decent fellow than you should invite a used car salesman to your Christmas party as a Santa C.

I think this is usually where Forums Nazi adds his subtle reminder that political issues are considered thin ice... and everyone should try to be nice.

Otherwise, I hope for your sakes the Forums Nazi hasn't forgotten his laxative. :p

Thank you, NeoNSX.

The instructions for this forum say: "Tread lightly on religion and politics." Please do.

A persons death is a time to put personal and political feelings aside. Please show some consideration by giving the deceased and their family a little respect!! Especially, a civil servant that is in a totally underpaid postion who has more responsibility than a majority of the folks on this entire planet will ever endure.

Once again, your political views are ALWAYS going to contradict mine so arguing is pointless and this thread was not meant to debate the political vices and virtues of Reagan, but rather to give express our remorse for his death...although, as horrible as it sounds, at 93 with alzheimers, death probably wasn't the worst thing.

It was under Reagan that the US gave Saddam Hussein anthrax spores, botulinum toxin, West Nile virus, and so on.

Under Reagan, the US armed radical Muslim holy warriors in Afghanistan to the teeth, empowering (among others) Osama you-know-who.

DUDE, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT DO YOU!? THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL DEBATE...THIS IS RECOGNIZING THE LIFE OF SOMEONE WHO WAS IMPORTANT TO THIS COUNTRY AT ONE TIME.

This post should be moderated and erased, as well as any other posts with political ties; whether republican or democrat in nature.

I made a few matter-of-fact statements.

Sorry you don't like them. I think it's important to remember all of Reagan's legacy.

My point wasn't about the Regan legacy or Iran/Contra, the debt or whatever. Those are generalizations and opinions is just like what the other side could do w/ LBJ, Carter, Clinton. So called Facts & Truth is open to debate and this thread is a poor place b/c that was not its intention whether you like the man or not. Hate for a person that is passed isn't respectful when you make comparisons between the "place that all lawyers go". The statement about taking a "laxative" is b/c maybe you ought to lighten up and lay-off the Gore/Dean like hatrid posting.

Well, you're "fact" has no business in this thread. Read the rules. Hell, Forums Nazi posted them three posts below yours. And if you are going to continue to break the rules and start controversy in nothing more than a thread acknowledging his death and offering our sympathies, then you need to back up your statements with unquestionable and undeniable resources.
