I'm going to be in Seattle for a couple days for the first time and wanted to know what's the best way to see the city. I've never been there before. It is an urban/walk/cab type place or do I need to rent a car?

You could easily spend a day walking around downtown. I would go for a Seattle City Pass, I believe $100ish per person, and it gives you tickets to the touristy stuff in the area. You can catch the light rail system from SeaTac airport to the heart of downtown for cheap. I just went to the exotic show they have every weekend in the Redmond Town Center and would recommend it too! I do believe it is every Saturday @ 9AM. Hope you have a blast!

Was just there two weeks ago, my wife and I walked.

I am not local but visited twice to help daughter settle. If you are primarily interested in the waterfront and downtown area, you can manage without a rental. But there is much more to Seattle than the waterfront. They do have bus system, but rental was worth it; just make sure you have a bagful of quarters for parking.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I am actually going on an Alaskan cruise that departs from Seattle so I decided to come a couple days early to check out the city. Logistically, it would be easier to not rent a car. But I don't want to be tied into one area only if you can see it all in a day.

The car show sounds interesting if I can swing that.

As a visitor to that lovely city a few times both for business and tourist, a couple of cool, unique things...... Underground tour, very funny and interesting in CBD http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attra...el_s_Underground_Tour-Seattle_Washington.html If you are the slightest bit interested in Aircraft or Engineering in general then Boeing Museum and factory tour. http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attra...iews-Museum_of_Flight-Seattle_Washington.html Factory = http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attra...t_Factory_Tour_Center-Everett_Washington.html Will need a car for the Boeing visits ( I thought hiring a car in the USA was compulsory if you are visiting, they tell us Aussies that its a condition of our visa!!)
