Sebring Silver: Painted Matched or Black Top?

I have to agree black makes the car look old..I would def go with the silver...but if u are going on the exotic classic side vs modern exotic then go for black.

I thought about painting my top once before but decided to keep it black. I like the contrast it gives to the car.

I've always liked the colored tops over the black roofs..... That's why if I would have gotten an early 90's car I would have went with black just to keep it all the same.
However, I have seen a few pictures of cars with the black top where they added a black hood and black wing which I thought looks pretty sweet.

The colored top does make the car look a bit newer....

The reason I looked for a black NSX in the first place was the matching top...I like the black top on other cars only if it's a NSXr or a NSXr copy...just my 02 cents.. I don't think black tops date the car because most people don't even know what the hell an nsx is in the first place...

I gotta chime in saying it's obviously a matter of personal taste...

Looking at the pics you had they all were a little different w/ rims, kits, etc.

what you should do is take a shot of your car as it sits and politely ask someone to photoshop it.

you'll know then your decision....

personally.. black top..

that black roof looks just old! its makes a car that has ancient technology appear very old. If i wanted a vintage car i would have bought something from the 70's.... Paint the roof and blend in with the ferrari's, porsche's and lambo's. They dont have black roofs....

Why 'blend in' when you can be unique??

Black roof with tinted windows or trade in on a '97+ silver.

Yes!! The black top with tinted windows looks amazing!! I say stick with the black roof.

With regards to people saying that the black roof 'dates' the car...I think it only has that effect to people who know that the early NSX's had the black roof. I have NEVER heard anyone see an early NSX and say, 'Wow...that black roof makes that car look old'. Heck, most people I meet now have a hard time believing that my NSX's are more than a couple of years old as it is. :D

Does anyone have a pic of the same car or a car with the same wheels tint lowered etc. that has a silver top and one with a black for a true comparison?

silver roof....it looks cleaner....

Black Roof on both Silver and White cars. As for other colors I like the matched look.

I used to prefer the black roof, but lately my opinion has changed. I think the black roof visually "deletes" the top of the car, making it look a little long and distorted when viewed from the side.

But I don't even own an NSX, so what do I know? :)

At first, when I bought my '91 Sebring Silver, I wasn't sure. Really like the BLACK top now. Wouldn't change it. Most people that look at the car think that it is glass ! On silver it is a very blended look...black chin spoiler, rubber, top, etc...
Wouldn't mind having a new one too...all in silver!

I vote black top. The black top just looks better. Even though I have a solid black car, and with apologies to the solid color crowd, solid red looks like a Ferrari wannabe color, and appears more orange on the solid color cars. The earlier red cars appear "redder". Solid white looks too generic, and solid silver is a little dull (my other car is silver with a black convertible top). I really like that 2001 coupe that no one seems to want to buy and that gets passed from dealership to dealership. I don't like the tan interior or the stick, so I wouldn't buy it, but the white with black top looks outstanding.

Having said all that, don't do what I would do. Do what YOU would to do.

Black!

Jett, I'm not sure how many Red non-earlier cars you've seen, but my 97 is red and it's far from Orange. My buddies red viper looks kind of reddish/orange when parked next to my car. I've never parked next to an early 90's red NSX to compare, however I do agree the older model has a darker red color.

I never liked the black roof except on a black car. I'm glad my yellow roof matches the car body, or I would paint it to match. However, the majority seems to like black. What is importaint is what YOU like. Either way it's an NSX and looks great.

ps. The folks at Honda must have liked the colored roof better too because they changed it to a painted roof in later cars.

During the 1999 NSX Fiesta in Japan, we were invited to ask Mr. Kuwahara (aka the Father of the NSX) any NSX questions in the presence of an interpreter. I asked him if he preferred black or color-coded roofs. His answer was very clear. He said the black roof look is part of the overall NSX design and defines the way the car's character is (he again referred to the blackened glass cockpit of a jet fighter). I am glad he said that as I agree with him.
