Can we put higher octane fuel in our stock NSX and is there the potential for damage? Will it put an extra "tiger" in the tank?

There's a shell station in Manteca that sells 100 octane. I talked to the attendant about it and he mentioned how running it hard for a few miles with 100 octane "cleans out" the cats and helps you pass smog because the cats don't wear out, they just cake up with something (or something like that). That same gas station also strictly does smog checks too.
Just curious, why do you want to run 100 octane? Octane is a measure of anti-detonation of a gasoline or fuel. It has no bearing on the amount of energy contained in the fuel.
