oem or modified nsx....

The reason i ask is i read often about all the fun engine options for the nsx- turbo, sc, stroker....

Thing is i'm based in ireland, where i do have a good tuner, but the back up and availability of parts is zero.

Basically, i was thinking of getting my hp hit by changing cars rather than trying to mod ( and potentially ruin) my 91. ie a 08 +viper with 600....

nsx here are rare, but Vipers are nonexistant, so the vehicle rarity remains.

Any and all opinions appreciated!

lol what the hell is it with these NSX/Viper threads?

I've been to Ireland, where in the heck can you use that much power in Ireland? Geez - the roads are so narrow over there it is scary - I drove all around the ring of Kerry and played golf down there in the SW all over and man I was scared to death on the road to Waterville when a tour bus passed me on a road about as wide as a driveway here in the US as I hugged the bushes on my right as the bus passed at about 40 mph - unreal and it didn't even phase him - I was a flea.

If you live in some of those areas - you need as narrow a car as you can get - so the NSX is I'm thinking a bit more narrow.

Once again - here we go - but there is so much difference between these two cars that it's just nuts. Obviously you haven't a care about petrol prices - so if you want super "he" man status - go with the VIPER - and just go on down the road. If you want cool and less "wow" factor and a want to cast a little less "shadow" then go with the svelt NSX - more tossable and just fun and it's Japanese. If you care not, want mega flash, and super power and speed - get the Viper. Pretty simple really - cause it boils down to stuff like that in my book. There are other issues but money is obviously not an object to you - so buy the thing that fits your catagory!

This is all I'm gonna say on this silly comparo - good luck - stay off those little narrow roads with tour buses! Be safe!

ACURA_NSX_PILOT you would never look back........ cuz it would be broke down on the side of the road. with no-way to get parts.

But seriously the next thread probably going to be NSX vs S2000.
Or NSX vs 1988 BMW
NSX vs 1971 VW BUG
its so funny,

AAaaah

Sorry guys

didn't realise this had been mentioned before- i didn't think to search!

I already have an nsx, it was a question of whether i should sc or turbo it or just buy the viper instead!

And yes the roads are EXACTLY as you described, most vehicles do pass within a few mm of you, though i guess we just don't notice because we're used to it.

I have driven some very fast stuff on road and track over here and my nsx with gruppe m v3, mugen headers and ecu, really does feel quick on the roads over here! But when i read about on here about them being 'aneimic' power wise etc, it makes me want what somany have got.....more power :)

If you want reliability with the least amount of hassle then get a supercharger....the comptech one is very reliable....if you want more power than that then get the high boost application for it.

Add feather weight flywheel, short gears, clutch and os giken 4.40 and your set....don't forget the comptech shortshifter either.

Time to make a decision eventually....you can only discuss this so much.

Ireland is pretty darn scary to drive in.....not as bad as Taiwan, but the all the roundabouts and narrow roads don't help.

Greetings

Rent a Viper before you buy one -- you want to drive one without an owner or car salesman sitting next to you so that you can really drive it and explore its possibilities. This is always my recommendation.

You might have to fly somewhere to do so. I drove a ton of vehicles before I bought my NSX. It was time and money well spent.

Cheers,
Martin

Wow. This is insane. Is this a Viper forum??

Look up Snakey and ask him. If he is still alive.

No one can tell you which car is right for you. The two you are comparing are 180 degrees from one another. If you want extreme power I doubt the modded NSX will be enough for you.

As for the Viper, I have not driven an 08+ but have driven an 05. I do know about the 08s and the power they make. It is common for them to dyno 540+ wheel stock and can make over 600wheel with full exhaust and a tune. If turn key power is your goal it is a hard car to beat.

These cars really are enormously different in every way.

Vipers do make insane power, even stock, but traction is a real bottleneck. It's not very useful if you're spinning the wheels all through first (unless the goal is to spin the wheels :) )

I test drove a bunch of Vipers before coming back to the NSX including a 2000 ACR, a 2002 RT/10, a 2001 GTS and a 2006 SRT-10

They were all fast, brutal and gigantic. The car feels bigger than the Vette (I owned a C5 back in 2000 before my first NSX) and it isnt very comfortable (the SRT being better than the Gen 2)

The clutch and shifter are heavy and the visibility is odd, but the seats are pretty good. Fit and finish was so so.

They ARE pretty well built though, and are reliable and cheap to fix. Its not a car I would want to drive often, but its a car Im glad some of my friends own.

Coming back to the NSX I came back to a heavily modded 1999 with CTSC. It's down at around 3000 lbs and making about 350HP at the wheels. In car video has me doing 0-60 in about 4.2 seconds and I suck completely (really soft start and I am *not* a great "drag stip" 6 speed driver)

For me... thats quick enough... LOL... I also find that there is power ALL OVER the band with the SC.

COULD I go quicker in an SRT-10? If I got a lot better at shifting and had no traction issues, the SRT-10 technically can be quicker to 60 than a SC 3.2L by maybe a couple of tenths. Is that likely to matter? 3.8 0-60 vs 4.0 0-60 when 99% of the cars on the road are 9 seconds 0-60? Only you can answer that one.

Who the hell is referring to *any* FI NSX as "anemic"?!?! NO ONE I know outside of the NSX community does. They refer to the 3.0L STOCK NSX as "anemic". But *any* FI is a whole different ballgame obviously. The NSX is a light car. FI in ANY form takes it easily to around 400HP. This is C5 Z06 territory. Last I checked 400HP in a 3000lb car isnt "anemic" in *any* book. You can only utilize so much HP on ANY road given that you have to turn or stop at some point.
