Filming with Hero 5 black from inside the car

I recently filmed a track event with my Hero 5 black and was quite disappointed by the result as the pictures were clearly overexposed.
In the old Hero 2 there was a "spot" setting to avoid this kind of issue but this has been replaced in the newer camera with an "auto exposure" setting that measures the light in a small window that one can position anywhere on the screen.
On paper it sounds superior but in practice the camera will not memorize this setting so that each time you press the record key it goes back to measuring the light from the complete picture...
Not fun to handle when you've attached your five point harness!
The workaround is to go in the "protune" settings that allows the exposure to be corrected through the classic (for a photographer) illumination settings.
These go from -2ev to +2ev.
I did a quick test today under great sunshine at the -2ev setting and the road is now almost correctly exposed with the cabin in the dark.
At least this setting stays in memory even after switching the camera off.
